    Crisis of local job decision
    I’m considering taking a State job, $44,500 minus Uncle Sam’s cut, with full health insurance $10 co-payment, 2 weeks paid vacation, 15 paid sick days and if I don’t use them I can sell’em back, and finally government pension for 10% of my monthly salary (retirement at age 52 or after working 20yrs)… keep in mind the cost of living in Massachusetts is very high;
    Studio Rent $900 * 12=$10,800
    Electric $70 * 12=$840,
winter heating $110 * 6=$690 total for the winter season
    Transportation: Auto insurance $750, gas $100 * 12=$1200
    House hold misc. Food & Entertainment $300 * 12=3600
    Total cost of living: $17,880
    $44,500
    -38% (taxes %pension)
    Take home pay: = $31,150

    $31,150
    -$17,880 (expenses)
final take home after all expenses = $13,270

What do you think-------Do you think I can do better going OTR

I am guessing you are military?

I attempted to work for the state. I couldn't take it.

If you want to understand why your taxes are so high and it feels like your money is wasted? Go to work for the state. OMG. As a business person, I was appalled.

I was 31B (MP) and 63T (bradley Mechanic)

Tell me our 88M's can't do this job.....

Them folks do things that make some of even the heavy civilian haulers seem lightweight.

12C are part 88M because bridge parts need to be hauled and part Heavy equipment Operator ---bulldozers, crane, boat lifters. Bridge building was 10% of the job and the rest was babysitting other units (convoy security,bridge/road clearing, tower guard, road security and every-other undesirable work)....

I would take the Govt job hands down....they are hard to come by (atleast around here) and if it doesn't work out there will always be OTR around.
