I've updated the list to add TWT!
So, right now I have my priority list as follows:
1.) Roehl
2.) Stevens
3.) KLLM
4.) Marten (Don't think they hire student drivers, do they?)
5.) Prime
6.)TWT
7.)??????????????????????????
8.)??????????????????????????
9.)??????????????????????????
10.)?????????????????????????
BTW, I know that there's going to be good and bad with every company and that one company might be a better fit based on what I'm personally looking for.
What I'm trying to do here is come up with a list of good reefer companies overall and then I'll select among the ones who offer me positions based on my own personal preferences.
This list will hopefully help me avoid the genuinely bad companies and enable me to choose from among the best reefer companies in general.
In other words, I'm trying to come up with a list that will help me pick a good company from among them. It's one of those "pick any of these and you won't be sorry" and or "stay away from those who don't make the list" type of thing.
So, thanks for all of the responses so far, and keep them coming. I really appreciate you taking the time to respond and hopefully help this newbie get my new career started out right!

My former co-worker at WalMart has been feeling smug reminding the management that they fired the only associate with experience with reefer trailers (me) now that they have 2 rentals for the extra turkeys and don't know a #### thing about how they run!

I don't recall if you mentioned going to a cdl school.
I found KLLM had the highest/quickest tuition reimbursement program. It included a final payout at theend of only 12 months! For a total of up to $4K.

BTW, I am going to driving school at a local community college. I talked with the instructors today and they told me that with my clean driving and criminal background, I should have plenty of choices and be lined up for a job by the time I get out of school.
But I want to make sure that I have my own list, to make sure the job placement assistance folks at the college includes them. -
What's your home state ?

The one thigh I didn't like about reefer was the sitting long periods waiting to get loaded/unloaded some customers paid detention but not many didn't mind the reefer running as I got used to it...trying to find a washout in some states was a pain though

at first i really did not care what my trailer was but when the company i drive for told me that by having a reefer unit opens the doors for both climate controlled freight and dry box freight. Bonus for me is that i can always find a load either reefer or dry.... yeah ther are sometimes reefer probs but if you know the basics it aint no big deal.
