I have filled out quite a bit of prehire apps and Im starting to wonder if I should pursue team or go solo... Im thinking team would benefit me since Im all green to this and I'm sure I'm going to come across situations out on the road i've never dealt with before or wherever i'm weak at my partner may be strong and vice versa. However from what I hear finding a good partner match is difficult. So my question to you more experienced drivers is what do you suggest a rookie like myself start with at least my first year? Team or Solo?

I'm also a new guy and I would pack it in before I would even consider teaming. I can barely live in a 2500 sq ft home with my wife let alone a 50 sq ft truck with a stranger.

Finding a team partner is harder than finding a good wife. I can say this because the wife lets me.:biggrin_2559::biggrin_2559: Never did find a "partner' I could stand.

Team or pull doubles and triples. I think we have very little choice in the near future.

i did it once (last week) for 5 days......living in a truck with a stranger is hell.......the guy drove me insane

even if it was my best friend, i think any 2 people are going to drive each other insane in a space that small for so long

    Short answer: Solo.

Why? Because you'll learn because you have to. Some carriers team two green drivers together, so it's the blind leading the blind. Along with the learning curve, you've got to get along with/deal with/not kill the other guy. Throwing two newbies who don't yet quite know what they're doing
is like forcing people to marry someone they don't know ("Marry in haste, repent at leisure").

Do you want to sleep while a rookie is driving? I couldn't trust anyone enough to even try that. No one could pay me enough.

Be brave. When you learn for yourself, you really learn. When you're solo, you're on your own and your thoughts are your own. If you, HEAVYDEE, team, you'll share a very small space with a stranger. If the two of you aren't getting along, that space will be even smaller. BOL.

More to the point: you won't earn more if you team.

If they'd told me I had to team or pull sets, I'd pull sets. I've done it--it's easy. Just like chaining up, people make a fuss about it, but pulling sets is not a big deal. If they told me I had to team, I'd find another carrier or another career pronto.

I don't have experience "team" driving. But I have spent the last ten years going on "Bikeweek" vacations with friends. Spending 10 days sharing a hotel room with some other person is tough. By the end of the vacation we usually end up trailering home in silence because of some blowout we had (caused by being around each other for too long). After a few days pass we laugh about it. This is 10 days spent with a guy who is a good lifelong friend. If I were stuck in a cab with a co-worker the company THOUGHT I was compatible with, I wouldn't expect a successful outcome. Heck, Even my house seems too cramped for me and my Girlfriend sometimes.
