You know who you are, and you're a jerk. I have a 62mph truck. I usually drive a bit slower than that. So needless to say, I get passed a lot. If somebody is flying by me, I usually don't bother. But if somebody is creeping passed me, or there if there's a line of traffic behind a passing truck, I always flash my lights, both during the day, and especially at night and during rain / snow. Maybe 40% of you actually give me a "thank you" in response.

I think some of you think you are proving a point. Sometimes, I'll flash my lights (at night, off then on, during the day, I use the brights), only to have you fly back over into my lane, without so much as a thank you. As if you're saying "that's right ^^^^^, my truck is faster than yours."

I feel as if flashing my lights as a courtesy is one of the last remaining things I can do to help keep the truckers brotherhood alive. And when you simply ignore me, I do take offense. Does it really take that much effort to hit the marker lights, hit the hazard lights, or flip the turn signal back and forth a couple times? There are some days/nights I simply say "forget it" and quit giving the "come on over big truck" lights.

So I'll say it again, to those of you who don't say thank you. You are a bunch of jerks. And you know who you are. Jerks.

Am I being waaay to sensitive and overreacting here?

Yeah maybe a little over sensitive...it's just the way things are today, so many "youngsters" driving the big trucks that were either never taught how to blink a thanks, or are too important (in their own mind) to have any common courtesy.

By the way...did you know the old one blink with the left turn signal is actually a "code" for flipping you off? So you youngsters, and "jerks" who want to play the "go slow till the truck starts to pass, then speed up so the truck can't pass" game with me...I'm not governed, and I can triple digit my truck...so when you play with me you are getting flipped off when I get over...I can think of two words I say to my windshield after it happens, and it is directed at you...the first starts with"A" and is followed by 2 "s", and the other has four letters beginning with "H" and followed with "OLE"...you earned it, far be it from me to not reward you with it!:biggrin_25510:

I have to agree with both posters on this one. It is just the way people are any more, but that don't mean I gotta like it...:biggrin_25512:
Especially if I have a truck that's taking a minute to get by me, I do the courteous thing and back off so he can make his move...flash the lights so he knows he cleared me...and then he doesn't even have the courtesy to say thanks?? That just gets in my crawl...
But you get the same crappolla from people in general. Try holding a door for someone, or just tip your hat / say hello as you walk by in the store...they look at you like you're an alien or something. I understand that we're all under the gun to get the freight there, and times are rough for everyone, etc...but I didn't crap on your Wheaties...:biggrin_25510:

What I've found to be really cool (when it happens) is getting a "thank you" from a driver I've flashed that delays pulling over into my lane until he/she thinks it's all clear. A) He or she made their own decision about when it was all clear, that's smart, and B) Still thought to thank me for giving an all clear from my perspective. I do, of course, encounter those drivers that not only don't wait for a flash from me, but don't even signal their intention to pull into my lane. I'm only driving a school bus, but the freight in that driver's truck ain't worth squat compared to what I'm hauling.

I got flashed from a school bus once...one problem...it was a rearward window, and the view was that of 2 cheeks and a crack...no teeth, no smile!

So the bus driver was really curious as I went by...LAUGHING MY HEAD OFF!!!!:yes2557:

I was wanting to make the comment that I notice when a lot of trucks
flash me over they are doing so just as I clear their bumper.

Now I myself don't like cutting in that close as I don't like when others
    do it too me.

So when they do flash me over too soon for my comfort I hit the interrupt switch to let them know I saw their flash, and then once I feel comfortable
with getting over I will hit the interrupt switch again to say thanks.

It's not just us "youngsters" that don't have common courtesy.

It's y'all "ole timers" as well. (Us and y'all being general, not necessarily you or me)

I see just as many seasoned drivers do the things we all complain about.

Face it the new generation will never do things like the old generation.
Not to say it isn't right, maybe not in the ole timers eyes, just not what
they are used to being done. Generation X didn't do it like Y just like Y
did not do things like Z did.

    It's the way things are.

I may not be on the road in a big truck yet, but even in my pickup I flash drivers over.

Like today on I-77 south bound today the slow lane suddenly slowed down and there was a driver at the tail end of the line, I was in the hammer lane just coming up to the back of his trailer when I saw what was happening in front of him and I could see him in his mirror looking back at me. So I backed off the hammer a bit and flashed the lights and he was able to jump into my lane instead of locking up his breaks in the middle of the highway. He flashed his lights back afterwords to thank me.

I don't care what the new drivers are doing, I know whats right and I do it. A little courtesy goes a Long way.

I do the same thing. Some people seem to thing I should cut over as soon as I clear the bumper, even though no one is behind me. I do appreciate the flash though, as long as no brights are involved.
