Do people really use it if they need it ? Can't your company discipline you for not, taking a run because you are tired ? Just trying to learn the ins and outs while I'm learning to drive a truck. Some of these guys I see get forced into so many hours it looks to,me,like it's killing them.

Never let anyone make your decision on safety. If you do. Well they will expect it next time and the next time and, you get the picture.

    Do you have a cdl?

Did you get enough sleep on your ten hour reset?

Edit .... most of those who are too tired to drive didn't get any sleep, they were fiddling around with their phones, playing games or doing unmentionables to their sheets.

If you're worried about working 14 hours a day then trucking isn't the best line of work for you. But if you do go down that path don't let anyone force you to drive if you aren't 100 percent capable. Who cares if you get "disciplined" or not? No job is more important than someone's family member or your own life.

If you're too tired you're too tired. Better late than in the ditch or the side of a school bus.

That said you need to get sleep when you can and if you find yourself in a spot where you know you're not going to able to get proper rest you can't wait until the last minute to communicate with the company.

The video below got a lot of attention and the driver was a complete idiot IMO.

Its like callin off "sick" from a normal job.. Dont let them notice a pattern and you'll be fine. Not everyone sleeps like a baby in the truck and they know this.

Most people who drive tired weren't sleep at all on their 10 hour break.. Others are raking in the $$$ balancing risk vs reward..

I've just seen a guy or two that won't use it even when they should is all. Not all of us are perfect and get the required rest when you work 14 off ten then back at it again. I'm saying like one time you weren't able to get the rest needed after months and, months of,constant work. If i am ever in that situation, all I'm saying was it's really something a driver can use (not abuse) when for whatever reason they think they are to tired to drive without getting in trouble with employer ? Everyone has a limit, I don't,care what kind of super trucker you, are.

Why is a bed in the truck?

So you can take power naps!

Sleeping in a truck takes time to get used to. Don't drink stuff with sugar or caffeine couple hours before going to bed and that will help someone go to sleep when on 10 hour break.

Now I am curious...was going to stay out of your thread, but you're not even a driver and you're throwing "Supertrucker" around. What is it that you do now? Do you work? Do you punch a clock? Do you have to show up at a certain time and work for a certain amount of time and be productive...you know, like a real job? How do you manage those times when you stayed up too late playing video games or fooling with facebook?

QuietStorm, RedRover, Lepton1 and 6 others Thank this.
