Question for yall. If someone offered you an office job, what kind of money would it take for you to go from being an o/o to an office employee w/ benefits?
If you dont mind also note where you live as cost of living varies & would probably affect wages.

    Ric,

I will tell you this, I did exactly that last summer when my former employer offered me my old job back. Great money, home every night, benefits, negotiated 3 weeks of vacation, company car, the whole nine yards. I lasted from July 8th to October 10th before I told them it wasn't working for me, quit, reinstated my authority and bought a truck and trailer. I just can't deal with the corporate BS anymore. So I guess the answer for me is "no amount of money" would get me to go back to that hell hole. As to area, you know I live pretty close to you and the place I'm talking about is just down the street from where I live near Academy's warehouse.

I'm probably not a good example, my kids are grown and out of the house. My wife works a lot so being home isn't really that big a deal for me. Just think long and hard before you make the decision. It was pretty costly for me to sell my truck and trailer at a loss, shut everything down and then start everything back up again.

    LOL. Transparant huh. Not enough.
You know , Ive only been driving about 3 yrs. When I relocated to HOU. I could not land an office gig and had always had my cdl in my back pocket. I had dispatched for over 15 yrs in intermodal, dry van , & ltl & before I left Cali I drove a HD wrecer for lil bit. Since I couldnt find an office job I jumped in a truck. Sometimes I love it , sometimes I hate it, especially being away from my wife and little girls, but I love my independence & freedom.
After driving I wondered why I hadnt done it sooner. I liked dispatching but its extremely stressful.
Dunno , I guess the offer just got me thinking is all.

I consider my truck a mobile office. It has a phone, computer, printer, scanner, stapler, mini fridge, filing cabinet, & plenty of BS. Buy me out for a 1 million dollars then pay me $2500 a week and I might be able to work in a office for about 2-3 hours a week tops.:biggrin_25519:

If you need to question it or your not sure you will never last in an office. Every time you hear a truck change gears or just whiz by it will eat at you day and night. It will play on your mind till one day you start find issues where you work and even though the issues may not be a big deal you will make them one. Then you finally say screw it and just start looking a driving jobs or truck sales online and then you get curious and make a call to a company saying "I am just curious" next thing you know you find someone who drives and remarks how much they like it or hate it. You know the real deal cause you been there but still you can't let go. Then it happens. Good bye office hello road! Never look back again

I say this cause it happened to me. Offered a job 1800 miles away at 99 a year no car but all the rest. After about 8 years I just couldn't shake the driving gig. I knew it paid a helluva lot less but liked driving a lot better than starring at 4 walls. So I quit. Went back on the road. Then bam got a call from a old coworker that says hey come to illinois for a year got a good gig. 1511.50 a week perdiem and 3520 every 2 weeks not including ot. Get a little of that but not much. Well here I am again on another hiatus from driving and looking at these same 4 walls again living in a extended stay hotel. I am going nuts. Wife 800 miles away at home cause she just can't pick up and leave yet Can't wait till this is over Weird I know but just not happy
