Naw, he drives the truck, and books his own loads, IIRC.

I'm a company driver, left to my own devices for the most part. I'm paid a flat 25% of gross and book 95% of the loads myself. The owner pays fuel, maintenance and other truck expenses.

The owner has to be pretty thrilled with the work you're doing, no ? It's pretty standard to pay a guy 25% or better and have to hire a dispatcher too. It sounds to me like you are performing above average at both functions.

Ha. If he is thrilled, I never hear about it. I get the grunts and groans over the phone when I call to tell him that one of those used tires he put on the trailer last month with 3/32" of tread is now at 2/32" and needs to be replaced again. "Well, can't you just run it for a few more weeks?" Um. No.

I try to guide him along the path to reduced expenses and increased profitability, but it's been a long uphill battle. Last week he finally got the fuel discount card that I told him about back in June.

I don't mind though. The no-risk education that I'm getting is well worth the aggravation - what little of it there is. :)

To his credit, he does come through with a pretty good load every 7-10 days or so.

I know a few 2-3 truck owners who would kill to get a driver like you in their truck:biggrin_25519:
