He's evidently never seen a grocery warehouse. Only thing I'm attending once I hit the dock for my 7 hour wait at 01:00 is my pillow
Told by DOT that I'm supposed to be on-duty at dock EVEN IN SLEEPER

If you're "at the ready", you're on duty. And you need to be "at the ready" when loading/unloading. You can't be down the road at the diner eating lunch and be "at the ready".......who would sign BOL or move your equipment from the dock ?

So, i am at home, waiting for the company to call to tell me it is time to come to the yard to leave and should log that as "on duty"? And i can't log "sleeper berth" because i have to be ready to move the truck at a moment's notice? The truck would never move because you are always out of hours.
This thing called "common sense" should tell you, if you're in the sleeper berth, log it as sleeper berth.Gliding ProStar, Razororange, blairandgretchen and 6 others Thank this. -

Lots of good points here but in my opinion & the way I understand the legality of the rule is you're supposed to be on duty while loading or unloading, or at the ready to operate the truck/vehicle at any time.
However, just like many rules, there are ways around it & one of them is what several members here suggested. When you get to the shipper/receiver, log 30 minutes etc on duty, loading/unloading, then change status to sleeper. No rule says you cant be in sleeper while on the property.
It took 30 minutes to load/unload & then you took a sleeper break.
And I'm just using 30 minutes as a number.. not specific. You can log 15 minutes if you want. Then change to sleeper & tell DOT you just pulled out of the dock, pulled over to the side after loading & took a nap.
And yes you can move the truck while on private property without going into drive time.
Again, just the way I understand it. I'm not an expert on the rules.MSWS, blairandgretchen, hope not dumb twucker and 1 other person Thank this. -
