    The DOT officer
    1. Truck parked at rest area.
    2. Driver exits said truck.
    3. DOT officer who is at said rest area, sees driver get out of truck, comes up to driver and informs said driver of a random inspection.

I must add that it only occurs to drivers who are not properly parked.

Driver pulls into truck stop, logs 5 minute post trip then goes into the sleeper berth for 12 hours before logging a 15 minute pretrip. Driver does this every day for the 8 days prior to the inspection.

Officer asks "did you ever go inside?"

Drivers says "yes I went in and showered, ate some food and watched some Law and Order reruns".

Officer gives ticket for falsified logs.

In short, it happens because drivers don't log it believable.

If your out of the truck as stated, they have nothing to inspect unless you open your mouth. They can't stop you for a vehicle inspection when your walking across a lot.

Sounds like a driver who needs to keep his yap shut.

Or he logs it in such a way that avoids the officer asking the question in the first part. Don't draw attention in the first place.

I had a cop say the same thing. Over my 8 hour sleeper. He didn't ticket me but that was a lesson to think about.

Since then I've logged a combo of both off and sleeper. Cuz realistically. They know you don't drive sleep drive sleep.
