Does your new job wait for your two-weeks? That's what I'm worried about, I know they do in other industries, but like I said before, I found out that trucking is a different beast, I don't want to give a two-weeks just for the new company to just say "That's too long, we change our mind". I will just ask my trainer if there have ever been drivers that quit and give a two-week notice, if the company treat them right, he's been here for 30 years so he's my best source.
Told Dispatch I was feeling sick and they marked it as a load refuse. Is this legal?

That's why I would fake some kind of vague "family emergency" after getting the truck to their terminal. As far as they're concerned, I'm coming back at some point, I just don't know exactly when, and I'm leaving the the truck in case they have to reseat me later. Once my last check is deposited, I call them up and say I have to resign for family reasons.
Again, that's just what I would do.D.Tibbitt, hope not dumb twucker and nextgentrucker Thank this. -

Getting home is your problem, not theirs.
They covered the cost to get you there because they wanted you, once you quit, regardless of two weeks notice or not, they are under no obligation to pay your trip home, and have no incentive to do so.Speedy356, Sirscrapntruckalot, tscottme and 2 others Thank this. -

They can legally put anything they want anywhere they want.
I got sick and had to stop in the middle of a load. Called the company and said I was done, throwing up blood, going to the ER. It was a stomach ulcer with severe dehydration from puking and doing diarrhea all night. They only wanted me to submit copies of medical paperwork, nothing else.
When I got sick in Arkansas I was so sick I was about to pass out. Finally found a walk in clinic and she took one look at me and said I don't know how you drove here. I wound up with I think 4 antibiotics. Everything was infected. It was awful. Again, just wanted paperwork showing it was real, never asked another question. I don't remember driving from the clinic to the truck stop. I woke up the next morning in bed hooked to the trailer. But no lines connected. So apparently I stopped the truck, went off duty climbed in bed and that was it. I was done. I remember her giving me multiple injections in my ### and then waking up at the truck stop the next morning. I was VERY LEGIT SICK.
But if you were legit sick, you have to go see a doctor and get an excuse or they can tell you it was bullcrap.Last edited: Feb 17, 2025

Not to cast aspersions on the OP of course, but we recently had a driver try to lie about this to get out of doing a pickup. The TM said pull over, we’ll put you OOS, and send someone to pick you up. The driver changed his mind.
MSWS, D.Tibbitt, nextgentrucker and 4 others Thank this.
