My hubby is finished and will arrive at the terminal tomorrow to began the upgrade prcoess!!

He has been on with his trainer three weeks and for the last couple of days when I have talked to him....which have been few and far between because the trainer doesn't allow it.....he has seemed more and more on edge. I was expecting to hear more and more relief in his voice as the end drew near but instead he seems like he is about to snap. So finally last night I ask him what was up. He then begins to tell me how things have REALLY been with the trainer rather than the "everything is fine honey" version I've been getting. :biggrin_25511:

You have to understand that my husband is one of those laid back never met a stranger kind of guys that doesn't let much of anything get under his skin. So now he tells me that he has just sucked it up and done whatever he had to do to get through the training experience in order not to get behind but that in reality the whole thing has been a nightmare. He says and I quote..."In 47 years of life I have never been spoken to or treated like I have these past three weeks." :biggrin_25516: He says the guy is mental and is suppose to take medication but the DOT won't allow it. Says the trainer has cursed him, belittled him and gone off on a tangit only thirty minutes later to be laughing and telling jokes! But he tells me not to stress because it's almost over and he just considers it boot camp for truckers.

So today I've had that on my mind all day because obviously it hurts me to know somebody has hurt my man. About an hour ago I thought he was supposed to be finished driving for the day since they are headed to the terminal and so I called him. He answers and tells me he can't talk because he isn't finished yet and I can hear the trainer screaming in the background "Get off the ########## phone you stupid Mother F*****" and then the phone goes dead.

Now mind you this is after he has already completed the required number of driving miles and hours for training but just hasn't made it to the terminal yet. Is this how it is for all new drivers with a trainer? How much should a person be expected to tolerate? It doesn't even matter now to my husband because he is done but I worry about the next poor person that climbs onto this guys truck!

Not all trainers are like that. Your hubby got unlucky to get one that has no business training people. I had one similar to that at Swift years ago, just not as foul mouthed. My hubby got lucky with Werner, and got a good one. At least you hubby has a good attitude still, since he looks at it as 'boot camp for truckers'. If your hubby can survive that, and still be somewhat upbeat, then he will do just fine in this biz! He'll be off the guy's truck soon, and not have to deal with it any longer.

There should be a form that he should have to fill out when he is done, and if he can do this out of the presence of the trainer, and turn it in without the trainer, he should diplomatically bring up some of the guys faults if he feels that strongly about it, if he feels the company won't retaliate for it. That can be a tricky area, as companies sometimes don't care what their trainers are like as long as they are going down the road.

Once hubby is away from the bonehead for good, just give him a good pep talk, and let him know that others have been through the same thing or worse. Tell him good luck out there too!

I used to be a trainer and yes I can say that there are trainers out on the road that should not be training let alone driving. There are lots of good ones out there too. Sounds like your hubby got a bad one. Wish him the best of luck from me. It will get better now that he has his own truck.

Wow that sounds like the trainer my husband had, what a nightmare, he completely turned him off to the whole thing, acting just like you described, and to top it all off, he was abusing his dog, throwing it and punching it,letting it out only once a day, only 7 pounds to, I was so sickened, that I did not want to hear about it anymore!!! I know exactly what you mean!!! Things will be better, when he gets away from him!!!! My husband found also, that it was better to just go along with him, as much as he didnt want to, and if the dog did something wrong he would not tell him !!!! Worst part about this is the company new what a mental case this guy was, and seemed to do nothing about it, and they continued to let him train people????????????:biggrin_2552:

American only truck crazy girl, cause nothing else will do!!!!!!!:biggrin_25520:

there is absolutely NO excuse for that. too bad he didn't mention it sooner, we could have told him what to do... CALL THE TRAINING DEPT AND INFORM THEM OF THIS, THEY WILL GET YOU A NEW TRAINER!!!
MOST CO'S I WOULD THINK WOULDNT WANT TO RUN OFF THEIR STUDENTS. THAT IS SOMETHING ALOT OF NEWBS DON'T REALIZE. IF THERE ARE CONFLICTS (MINOR) ALL THE WAY UP TO THIS BLATENT ABUSE, THE TRAINING DEPT NEEDS TO KNOW. I HOPE ANY STUDENTS READING THIS WILL NOT SIT BACK AND LET THIS HAPPEN. DONT, I REPEAT DON'T JUST GET OFF THE TRUCK. :biggrin_25510:
AT USA THEY HAVE AFORM TO FILL OUT AT ORIENTATION ABOUT US AND THE TRAINING DEPT DOES LOOK AT THEM CLOSELY.

Well said!!!! For all you new students...YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO REQUEST A NEW TRAINER. Dont put up with BS like that. As I said in a pose befor, I used to be a trainer and the CO's would have no prob in getting you with someone else. It happens all the time, let your DM know you need a new trainer and they will get you back to the yard and hook you up with someone else. It;s up to you to make that call. Their is no reason ANY student should have to be put in a hostal training enverment. Let the DM know and get back to the yard.......UNLESS YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT DONT GET OUT OF THE TRUCK!!!!! You may be looking for another job if you do that.

They could, not worth the chance. Abandonment would kill you as a driver.

Another nightmare. So sorry to hear that your Hubby had to go through this. There is NO excuse for this. My hubby is in training too, he has a nice stack of papers to fill out about his training, one of them being on the TRAINER. DO report the trainer, it's uncalled for, also if your hubby has to fill out the paper on his trainer have him to be honest about everything that has happened. Thank goodness my hubby has an awesome trainer! We couldn't have asked for better people throughout his training, he has really had a nice experience. I wish your hubby the best, I'm not sure if I could have refrained from knocking the *oops* out of the trainer.

Thanks to all of you that have responded. I wish all companies and schools were required to tell newbies about this site! LOL! Unfortunately I stumbled across it on accident just looking for information to help me understand his new career which was too late to learn A LOT of things I wished we had known. :biggrin_25510:

I finally got to talk to hubby about ten last night. He was in the bathroom at the truck stop so he could talk to me on the phone. His voice was shaking and he said he thinks the guy is intentionally trying to provoke him into a fight but that he is too close and maybe the guy will just let him go to sleep. I was too afraid to ask exactly what had been going on since I had called. All I knew to do was try to encourage him to stay calm and hang in there for one more night.

I ask him if he had paperwork like an evaluation to fill out on the trainer and he said the trainer had him fill it out already during the day and turn it in to him!!! Says the trainer said he would be turning in all the paperwork when they arrive at the terminal!

I haven't heard from him since. Haven't slept hardly any. I keep staring at the phone trying to make it ring. I'm afraid to call him for fear it will send the trainer into orbit if they haven't reached the terminal yet. I really hope other new drivers out there who read this will heed the messages provided by those with experience. My husband doesn't even have a temper. I've NEVER seen him lose his cool. I've always joked and said he'll never die from stress because everything rolls off his back. So to hear his voice shaking told me everything I needed to know.

Please pray the phone rings soon!
