Is there a way to see how much a certain route will cost you over another due to tolls ?? I'm going from central Va. to Chicago and considering using 64/35/50 up thru Cincy to avoid the Pa and Oh tolls !!!
Tolls .. How to avoid them ??

Go to mapquest, type in your start and stop locations and see what the miles are (with tolls)...........THEN... check the box "avoid tolls" and see how much further the trip is......THEN..... multiply your fuel cents per mile by the extra milage.
From VA to Chicago it will be cheaper to do as you say by paying extra fuel and avoiding tolls.
I dislike tolls as much as the next guy, but back when fuel was almost $5, running the tolls was usaully cheaper, or at least close enough that it wasnt worth running around them
One example was when it cost .80/mile in fuel, there were guys who'd go through Jax to get to Miami and the extra 40-ish miles. $32 extra in fuel to avoid a $22 toll. -
He will be paying tolls on 64 in WV.
He could take 70 to 68 and then north to 70. Take 70 to 35 and no tolls. -
Just a note to y'all . There are no tolls in KY . Tolls were removed from the parkways in November 2007 .

Work for a company that will give you an EZ Pass
Oh, and reimburse for tolls that aren't EZ Pass
-
Self employed so no reimbersement ... and I have ezpass. I don't mind some tolls, its just the ones where they rake you (Pa Turnpike). The bad thing about EZPass is you don't see the charges until you get home and check your statement. I couldn't believe how much some were. I just want to avoid the outrageous ones.
Thanks for the suggestions. -
Depending on where you start the trip.
Wash DC
270 to 70 to 68 to 79 to 70.
70 all the way to Indiana to 65 to Chicago. -
Sorry, just trying to throw some humor at the situation. I totally understand the self employed part. I ran my own business for 3 years before I got in the truck. I'll do it again later in life. I enjoyed it and learned a lot, but man, all the people who think you don't have to work because you're the boss....
Of course, I only had one employee and she was part time and people still thought I didn't have to do much... -
I agree w/Roadmedic, ran that way for years. OH is a hassle no matter how u go.

Right on roadmedic, probably the way I would go,I really dont like tollroads put I find if I start skipping around on state roads I tend to loose time,so if Im in a hurry I generally jump on the toll roads and dont eat for two days!
