Im happy I went the Vgt and a tune with mine.
Plenty of power ,I can pull any hill on 81 in pa now loaded in high gear with power to spare.
When it comes to slowing down the jake will almost thru you Thru the windshield when you let off at a low rpm.
    Very good working combination.
The only test left is the durability test for the Vgt with a tune.
Time will tell I guess so stay tuned.

If the tune you got is of "high quality" you will have absolutely no durability problems at all. The only downfall of VGT on tune is that you still have to deal with crappy vpod failures. With money that you save you can keep a spare with you.

    Verdel and Hulld Thank this.

I think the tune I have is of good quality and has no hiccups at all.
Every thing seems to work perfectly no derate and no codes at all no even a turbo over speed code.
The turbo was a brand new out of the box garret so I think I will be ok.

Does anyone know how to get rid of that potato in the tailpipe hissing exhaust sound on a 14 Ltr Detroit?

Yes. You have to delete the vgt turbo and install a fixed vane turbo like a borg warner . Too do this you need a different program in your ecm also.

    Gotcha.
I bought a Western Star, 2007, low mileage showroom shape, has 14 Ltr, which I know isn't a 12.7, but its incredibly clean, price was right too.
Shop installing the wet line now, should be ready Wednesday.
I drove it like I stole it, 40,000 lb empty high wall 5 axle end dump in tow.
Just can't get past that hissing exhaust sound, but will do what's needed to get around it.
Thing is, I'm hearing a Borg Warner turbo ( non variable) gets rid of the hissing with a little programming change to boot, but am I reading right, that I'll lose Jake effectiveness?
I'm always at 140,000 lbs gross, and have a mountain to get down on each of 2 loads daily, so I need the Jake's, no doubt about it.
If I remove stock exhaust, and add 7" or 8" pipes, plus a Borg Warner turbo, does anyone know the outcome?
    Hissing gone / Jake's working?
    Much appreciate your support guys.

The hissing will be gone but your Jake's wont work as well either . It's a trade off. You could just keep your vgt but get the ecm tuned. It will pull great and the Jake will still hold well.

    Hulld Thanks this.
