A 9/16" wrench will work for old non self adjusting brake slack adjusters, but the newer ones have a different tool that helps, a 2 piece tool, one holds OUT the spring loaded lock and the other turns the adjuster, which is smaller like 7/16"

I've never done tractor brakes, just trailer. It was a simple process of release the brakes, use a 7/16" socket clockwise till it just snugs up, then back it off 1/4 to 1/2 turn. Of course the trailers I had to adjust brakes on were pretty old so newer trailers may be different.
