If any of you veteran drivers are reading this, please help me out here. I have read so many horror stories about different trucking companies that I am not sure who to try and get on with. Yes I will be a new driver with no experience other than what I have gained on my part time job driving rollback wreckers.
I personally think signing a contract agreeing to work for a company for a year or two in exchange for schooling is a crock. It seems too many people are getting screwed this way. So that being said here are some things I am looking for and maybe some of you experienced drivers can lead me in the right direction.
1. Looking for a company that will train me and help me get my permanent cdl without any strings attached.
2. Company that has the business to give you the miles 2000-2500 per week minimum with a starting pay of at least .32 cpm.
3. Good and affordable health insurance for families.
4. Paid vacation leave.
This is just the minimum things I am looking for. I am sure I will catch a lot of flack for this. Maybe I am living in a fantasy land thinking somewhere in the trucking industry, companies that offer this kind of compensation exist.
I know trucking is not perfect but I am not going to go work for a company that treats you like a dog and under pays you for your hard work while the CEO's are making big money.
Too many horror stories. I need help finding a good trucking co.

If I read your post correctly, you are looking for a company who will give you the training and experience you need to get your CDL, then who is willing to let you just walk away? Let me know when you find this company, I'll go too.

Me too..... -
My job pays 80,000 a year (take home), company car, full bennies, health, dental, eye all for 100 a month, covers spouses and children too. A months paid leave any time I want, and holidays off..

What? I am joking? Well...you started it.ptropixxx and thelastamericanhippy Thank this. -
Rubber Ducky 68, please get out of that fantasyland you are living in and come into the real world. Lower your expectations just a bit, because, quite frankly, you are not in any position to make demands. There are thousands of potential new-hires that will sign on for lesser demands. And that's the truth......
ptropixxx Thanks this. -
You need to pay your dues FIRST then you can make SOME demands on what you want ...Best advice is go with somone who will train you then AFTER you have a few years under your belt buy your own truck ,trailer get your own authority and make it happen. Then you can have the best of both worlds

I know a company that will pay you to do all their worrying for them. Salary is 70 grand a year. All bennies. When do you get paid? That is your first worry....

As for signing a "Year Contract" with a company because of school...., #### Right! The company is putting a lot of money in YOU to go to school, and Insurance for us FNG's is not cheap either. So it is a security blanket to make sure you don't get the free schooling, just to quit and go to another company.
RD 68, do your research, and think about what you want to do in the industry; Dry Van, Refer Van, Flatbed (Real Work!), Car Hauler..., etc. All of the pay and Benefits will come. -
I don't think rubberducky68 is a real poster. I think it was just to make everyone have a giggle! Maybe we should just turn this thread into "dreamy trucking"! The first forum posters name will be "Bandit62" or "Snowman420". I will start off the thread by saying I want to lease a truck with no money down and no contract. Also the company pays half my lease and all my breakdowns. I also want $2.00 a mile or 99%! I only want to do drop and hook and I don't want to drive thru any cities. Just sparsely populated rural areas with good pavement! Also no one is allowed to write me a ticket, just a warning! I will only haul loads weighing under 10,000lbs. I get to shower everyday and get my own parking spot at the fuel island. I also want someone to fuel and wash my truck while I take a shower. When I get to the shipper/receiver I want to be able to just get out of the truck and go in the waiting room while someone backs up my rig and does the hooking and unhooking for me. Also while the are at it they can go weigh it too and make sure I am under 10,000lbs. By then I might need a nap so someone else will have to drive while I sleep. Make sure to wake me up for my shower though! AAAHHHHHH! I love my job!
