At @nax sorry I finally got the old cow back out to start running this year. In the process now of installing a block heater. I thought the overflow was half full but no it isn't it just the main tank. Am I supposed to have some coolant in the overflow? I have to take a closer look at this tank tommorrow.
Too much coolant is bad for you...

Well I was wrong the overflow tank is half full along will main tank full to cap. Everything is drained and will get it back together Monday. I will keep you guys updated.

Still drained I have been waiting for that pesky block heater to come... Should be next Monday or Tuesday. Going to take off tank this weekend and clean out some oil residue from leaky cups last year. Is the coolant level sensor on the overflow side?

The sensor section is at minimum level (its cold)
The re-circulation section is almost full
The overflow section is empty -
Guys the biggest problem you're having is because the pressure is wrong, a symptom of a bad overflow cap.
All these Volvo guys here and nobody knew this ????
Replace the overflow cap with new OEM and set coolant to proper level..and the coolant surging will be gone.
DO NOT DRILL OUT YOUR CAP !!!! YOU WILL CAUSE YOUR COOLANT BOIL POINT TO BE MUCH LOWER WITHOUT PRESSURE !!
Hot spot localized boiling will damage your motor at an accelerated rate with potential for cracks and cavitation holes... Etc. Very bad !! -
@KB3MMX ....hhhmmm
So u saying I should replace both caps just to be safe? -
