She does work for SWIFT but not in that capacity.

If they had any sense they would make her Chief of Recruiting and change a few things. Would probably see higher retention and more profitable operation in long run.

I'd rather they let my terminal/fleet manager be in charge of the entire operation. We'd be more profitable, have customer satisfaction and better care of drivers.

There's a lot of good information in this thread. There's also a lot of hilarious misinformation. Being owned by a carrier? Most trainers have only 6 months of experience?

I'd respond to the funny stuff but it's just the same old, same old that's apparently been going around for years and some folks are incapable of doing much more than jumping on bandwagons.

Look for posters/members who don't have an axe to grind or for posters/members who back up what they say with factual, verifiable information.

I've only been around for a short time but I learned early on who, on this forum, I could trust and rely on to shoot straight. Look for them, they're out there!

Oh, by the way! Nana is not a recruiter....she's FBI!!!!!!:smt066

We had a recruiters come by for Com car and Stevens this week. It sounds like com car will keep you close to home if you want but Stevens will keep you on the road with more miles.

Older drivers like me can work smarter by drawing upon our life experiences and knowledge. Here's an example - since my eyes aren't what they used to be, I have placed a magnifying card with light inside my Rand McNally atlas using hook and loop tape (Velcro). Also, I've organized my clipboard with storage compartment to include a magnifying glass (plus other items such as a stapler, staples and calculator). And, there's still plenty of room in the clipboard compartment for paperwork. See attached photos.

Here's a link to the magnifying card with light: http://www.walletowl.com/

I am almost 63 and have had my CDL for 10 years.....like the couple that posted earlier, I went to school with Swift and worked for them for 5 years. Despite all the crap you hear about Swift, it is a well run company and a good starting place for new drivers, especially with their training payback program.....I don't think they are running their own training program at the Phoenix terminal...I think they have contracted out to a driving school in Phoenix, but when they had their own program it was probably the best in the country. You can get a good start with Swift and then move on to a better paying job......I now drive for an owner operator who has three trucks. I make 47 cents a mile and have a good time-off deal with him.....these jobs are out there but you have to look hard for them.....a perfect driving record helps....so keep your eyes on the road.......at 63 I still find trucking enjoyable and profitable.....so go for it, pal.
