I’m glad to see this thread because I’m wanting to switch to flatbed or bulk tanker soon (my heart is calling for flatbed) and I’ve been out of construction and forestry for a while I’ve gotten soft.
I’m only 130lbs at 5’6 I’ve been telling my s/o if I keep up this work imma have to buy weights to stay in shape. I’m one of those guys if I ain’t working hard I’ll lose weight.
I worked for a large timber operation in Oregon for a while. My heaviest ever was 170 I feel best at my old fighting weight 150-160
Too small to tarp a flatbed?

Who did you work for in Oregon? Were you hauling logs or working in the woods?
-
Woods, a guy who’s name starts with JB he would basically sub contract out the work. It wasent like on the tv show we didn’t get an overhead rigging system. We did work around some of em but not for very long.
I was a skidder driver,(is run a hydroaxe is the terrain allowed it) I can cut timber but I don’t do it well. I’ve also ran the clown show that is a bell feller (3wheel POS) on flat land
Edit:construction was general landscaping not like house framing -
We had a Bell trike for about ten years but nobody wanted to run it. After they turned it over a couple of times they usually quit or got on another machine if we had one open. It spent more time on it's side than it did upright. It sat out behind our shop for years and we finlly sold it for scrap.
Edit...to be fair to the Bell, we were working it on steeper ground than it was intended for. Hence the turn overs.Last edited: Jul 6, 2019
Mototom, PoleCrusher and Lepton1 Thank this. -
I think most people have those feelings about bell fellers. I prefer running the hydroaxe they’ll eat just about anything......if they don’t sink.

Its called "work smarter not harder". You don't always need to hulk big ### tarps up on the deck. Use your brain and figure out a way to get them on the deck without hurting yourself. Or find somewhere else to store them. My truck has a large storage box on the right side, easy to get tarps into if needed. The same box can be mounted on a trailer. Or simply use a strap or rope to pull the tarp up. Do what ya gotta do.

I can fight a little. But its based on treachery. Not like at 165 back then. A old Marine once told me that there is always someone bigger and faster than you and drop you. My ancestry calls for violence in the right situation in the blood but I have grown quiet these last years of trucking. That will come to you later in your years. It's a good quiet when you have everything in order with everyone important in your world.
Good luck to you. -
Oh no I’ve hardly ever fought out of anger, I used to frequent the gym a lot and they had a small ring. I’m well away from being a billy bad ###.
Like the old song I’m a lover not a fighterx1Heavy Thanks this. -
I try to fix a problem. Talk a little or alot. Then if there isnt work to defuse it. The problem is some of my opponets in life refuses to tolerate me so I must be eliminated. Then they learned that each of us have what we have and don't get to choose what to have when we are born here. I have a little capacity for love and it's really good in life with my ex. I think she is something else. Always has been. THAT makes me less willing to see problems from others.
I enjoy a peaceful home in the evening time. Best wishes to you and yours.
