The designs actually go back to the 80s when the planning for the Big Dig was started.

    i know, it's a crying shame, the costs over-runs.

up here, all anyone has to suspect is "mob influence"....

I was thinking more like “union interference”(Teamsters comes to mind) but the mob can’t be ruled out.

I usually have a good bridge picked out for that purpose here in Maryland when home. SCRAPE done. Here in Arkansas there aint too much like that to do it with. So.. I just let her blow off or fall off. Which isnt that great but better than breaking a leg getting up there.

Im well aware of that. I wallowed in the #### big dig up there plenty of days watching all my directions get dug up.

I am actually still a little peeved from those days. ha. However the engineering replacing the old 93 while it's in use is pretty masterly if I say so myself. More like ballsy.

One tunnel actually killed at least one with falling panels. I think they paid out a bunch of money. Turned out many more anchors are half assed installed. I have not heard of any more falling panels. So... who knows.

So famous that it even has its own Wikipedia page.
    Big Dig - Wikipedia

In addition, while it was still ongoing the project became a “impromptu tourist attraction”- Duck boat tours would show people various stages of construction!!
With the cost overruns and the interest included it’s estimated the whole project won’t be paid off in full until 2038,at the latest!

The better question is why they couldnt leave it round like the tunnels of New York and just tile the walls? Unless that is one of the joints where the two caisons joined.

The Big Dig = Ted Kennedy pride and joy! A nice, deep and wide money pit.
