How would you mount it on the front of the trailer?
I don't think that just the aluminum sheets that make the trailer would be strong enough to hold the weight of the toolbox. Generally you fabricate something to the heavy beams underneath of the trailer obviously.
Maybe possibly if you had a thin piece of flat to go behind wherever you would mount it on the front of the trailer as long as it didn't interfere with the freight maybe you could do that?
You could run quarter inch flat like maybe 3 in wide or something like that on the top and the bottom where you would mount it. I don't know that that would interfere with your freight. I would think just a quarter inch might be ok if you put the bolts facing toward the front of the trailer.
I don't know about any of that because those tool boxes depending on what you have in there have to weigh hundreds of pounds.
Under the trailer is definitely a better option.
Have you ever thought about going higher on the catwalk? Like if you have things on there make a a mount so that you can put the toolboxes up higher.

I'm with you Siinman, I've thought a lot about adding a box to the trailer but I'm going to try to unload a ton of stuff on to the frame (vs. in the cab) by getting a cab box if I can ever get my mind around spending 4 grand on it.Rideandrepair Thanks this. -

They make a box that replaces your cat walk and it dips down and “hugs” your drive shaft. This will hold a decent amount of stuff and it isn’t even noticeable. I would go this route.

i was gonna say i hauled a dry van 2 years ago that had a full mounted tool box underneath.. but doesnt have the skirts.. wonder if you could just shorten up the skirts and run them until the front of the toolbox?although it would suck if you ever had a tall railroad track or driveway to get into.. definatly scrape it up or rip it right off mounted on the back like that.. this was a 48ft trailer if i remember correctly.

A nice heavy steel box I think could be easily mounted on the back side of landing gear. Plenty of strong mounting points there and would have ton rip landing gear off to smash box.
I have an in frame box that splits the driveshaft, seals nicely. Don't have much of anything heavy in it. Its held up nicelyRideandrepair, Brettj3876, Ruthless and 2 others Thank this. -

These guys can make you a toploading box to fit behind your side fairings or a headache cabinet in any height/width/depth you want. Either would keep your truck and trailer looking clean.
