How would you mount it on the front of the trailer?

I don't think that just the aluminum sheets that make the trailer would be strong enough to hold the weight of the toolbox. Generally you fabricate something to the heavy beams underneath of the trailer obviously.

Maybe possibly if you had a thin piece of flat to go behind wherever you would mount it on the front of the trailer as long as it didn't interfere with the freight maybe you could do that?

You could run quarter inch flat like maybe 3 in wide or something like that on the top and the bottom where you would mount it. I don't know that that would interfere with your freight. I would think just a quarter inch might be ok if you put the bolts facing toward the front of the trailer.

I don't know about any of that because those tool boxes depending on what you have in there have to weigh hundreds of pounds.

Under the trailer is definitely a better option.

Have you ever thought about going higher on the catwalk? Like if you have things on there make a a mount so that you can put the toolboxes up higher.

I am not gonna be putting tools in it so not worried about that stuff. Just looking to add some more room for little stuff that I keep in the truck that would be easy to just throw in a box. I thought about doing something on the back of the cab as well.

Yeah would have to beef up the front of the trailer for sure and I think I would be fine with that but not really liking the look of it either. I was also thinking about adding to the truck so that was part of the stuff I was thinking about adding with the trailer. I just want to get a bunch of stuff I carry out of the cab so I have more room. Want to take my pup out with me once it warms up and trying to get it ready for that. Ha ha

It's a constant battle. I'm not a hoarder but the longer I run this truck (and live in it all week) the more stuff gets put in here. Spare parts, clothes, food and of course tools. I also tend to gather more stuff like straps than I get rid of. I cleaned up my tool box last week and I've got about 25 straps. But, I'm on a load today where I used about 15! I can't see going backwards.

I'm with you Siinman, I've thought a lot about adding a box to the trailer but I'm going to try to unload a ton of stuff on to the frame (vs. in the cab) by getting a cab box if I can ever get my mind around spending 4 grand on it.

Yes I tend to add more stuff every #### trip I take. Have about the same amount of straps and lots of extra parts more for air stuff than anything it seems. Just need more room that makes sense so I can be organized. Right now I have my top bunk full of stuff that I could not tell you where anything is unless I dig through it all.

They make a box that replaces your cat walk and it dips down and “hugs” your drive shaft. This will hold a decent amount of stuff and it isn’t even noticeable. I would go this route.

i was gonna say i hauled a dry van 2 years ago that had a full mounted tool box underneath.. but doesnt have the skirts.. wonder if you could just shorten up the skirts and run them until the front of the toolbox?although it would suck if you ever had a tall railroad track or driveway to get into.. definatly scrape it up or rip it right off mounted on the back like that.. this was a 48ft trailer if i remember correctly.

A nice heavy steel box I think could be easily mounted on the back side of landing gear. Plenty of strong mounting points there and would have ton rip landing gear off to smash box.

I have an in frame box that splits the driveshaft, seals nicely. Don't have much of anything heavy in it. Its held up nicely

I like the frame boxes and had not thought much about them. Might do that and skip the trailer one if I cannot figure out something else to do. I really want the height on it though. I think you can only go 9" on the frame boxes?

These guys can make you a toploading box to fit behind your side fairings or a headache cabinet in any height/width/depth you want. Either would keep your truck and trailer looking clean.
