    Morning Rat .....

    Fiberglass antennas don't like to hit things ..... I've lost a few HAMSTICKS to a low object .....

    I have, and that's what I run also. Wilson 1000s on my four wheelers. When tuned properly I can't tell one talks any better than the other. I can see where they wouldn't hold up where Rat lives.

    You don't have to be a radio enthusiast to understand,that a metal whip will outlast a fiberglass rod,in a truck environment.It's just plain common sense.

    How was it done :biggrin_25513:
    What kind of control and referance :biggrin_25513: was used.

    There are many things you have to do to get a good result you just can't put a ant on a pole and print numbers ....

    There was a add years ago for a RUBBER DUCKY antenna that said 186 DB gain !*

    * Over a wet noodle down a 1,000 foot well ....

    There were 6 receiving stations (4 close and 2 far-away) giving signal reports on TX , RX numbers were of course from test station.

    BUT what is the referance ? S units ? DB ? its fine to do a field test but what do the numbers relate too ?

    Nice start with relitive readings .....

    Units are meaningless since these are ratios and units therefore cancel. Whatever the units are they were all the same per each antenna. In other words if S units were compared between antennas then all the numbers are S units. Simple math shows that units/units = one. S/S = one. dB/dB = one. Negated. Unity. Gone. Zilcho. Nada.

    What you should concern yourself with is the huge number of other errors. Such as did each antenna have identical SWR, identical mounting location and ground plane, and so on. I would find it hard to believe these factors were all the same. Some form of correction factor would be needed and I would think this factor would be very hard to derive.

    I don't know about SWR, probably not the same because some antennas don't get as good SWR as others. Location was the same, some antennas used same base, some had their own base. It's hard to get all the factors same but I think this was still a nice test.
