I have a 2007 Sterling truck. It is not a high miler but I am in the process of replacing the rubber boot between the cab and the sleeper unit for the third time. The first time replacement was done at the dealer and lasted 4 months. I replaced it at that time and the replacement lasted just about a year, and now I see it is time to change it out again. I've had trucks where the boot never needed replacement but this one ....
This unit has an air ride cab and a solid block mount for the sleeper which I am assuming is causing the boot to tear. The question for the forum is this. Has anyone ever tied a sleeper and cab together to be supported by regular air cab mounts, what kind of material could be used, aluminum I beam or ...?
I am also open the possibility that I have overlooked something. Has anyone else a bad experience with torn boots? As sleeper boots go, I do prefer the kind that don't tear or fall out.

Have you replaced the cab air bags and shocks ? It sounds like the cab is moving to far and ripping the boot maybe? Or maybe it just needs to be adjusted .

    tanksalot Thanks this.

Hi marmonman, thanks for the input. The cab is definitely moving too much for the boot that has been supplied. I have inspected both shocks and the bags and they seem to be fine, no abrasions or leaks. Your suggestion did spur an idea though. I will try to limit the top end movement with a length of chain. Wish I had thought about that earlier.

If you haven't replaced the shocks in 5 years, I would definitely do that, no matter what they "look" like. I'd also make sure the height setting on the leveling valve is properly adjusted. As far as integrating the cab and sleeper, the work and time required would not be justifiable to get it right, if you can get it right. You would have to engineer and fabricate a completely new air ride system.
