The tornado that ripped across I-40 last night looks like it took out some truckers. Anyone have word on the situation?
Right now I'm close to Cincinnati, and a storm cell is approaching (but so far no siren from my new app).

I haven't heard good things from about the Red Cross app, as it isn't GPS enabled as in it doesn't alert you because of your GPS location, but only on a list of places you have entered into the app. When driving you never know where you'll be just where you are. I know Steve keeps his GPS on I turn mine off for battery conservation. Anyone try the other app? or have both to see if one works better?

When I installed the RC app it specifically asked me to enable GPS, which I did. However, it went off twice last night in northern Kentucky. Had me concerned so I pulled over and looked at weather maps. Had some intense thunderstorms to the east of me, but no tornados.
Now that I'm playing with it it seems to want me to enter Locations to monitor. Therefore this app seems to be best for someone that is living and working in specific locations, not good for a trucker.MJ1657 Thanks this. -
A properly setup Wx band radio in the truck (that has certain features) should run any alerts that are receivable in any given area, even if you're listening to something else, or have the radio off. NOAA Wx towers have a typicl range of about 40-50 miles depending on terrain, so whatever alerts you receive will more then likely affect an area within about 50 miles of your location, but still could be anywhere other then where you are or are going.
I prefer Radarscope App for IOS and Android. It will plot your position, display radar updated about every 5 minutes, as well as plot current TS, Tor, and FF warning areas on the screen and these will remain there as long as they are active. It's simple, clean, and very effective for giving you the information you NEED in a visual format and allowing to see your position in relation to the area storm cells. It can be set to not let the phone sleep/lock if you prefer when moving through a dangerous storm-laden area. -
i use pyckl3 radar. great to have while driving. i have a windshield mount cell phone holder and its plugged into my charger so i can leave pyckle3 open and see whats going on in my vicinity without burning up my battery.

I use Storm Sheild app. Its 5.99 from the android or app store but well worth it. As long as you have Wi Fi on the phone it will always stay updated with your location, and when it goes off, it will bring you out of a dead of sleep. Best money I have ever spent. Being in the middle of nowhere and seeing the storm in the distance and my phone going off telling me about warnings and watches. It well worth the money and gives you real time radar and hour forecast for 5 days.
Lepton1 Thanks this.
