First off let me say that I am completely ignorant when it comes to CDL matters. I know nothing about it.

To do many driving jobs in the U.S., not just trucks either, you need to have a CDL. I have heard from people that in order to get a CDL you first need to get hired by a company and have them sponsor you for a CDL. Is this true or can you just go to school yourself and get what you want? In general, how much do the schools cost to get a CDL?

I recently seen a job ad for driving a limo that required applicants to have a CDL B w/Passenger Endorsement. How do I get this?

    Thanks for helping out!

    ok...we will all try....

not totally entirely true....there ARE some driving jobs that DO NOT require a CDL, these are usually small trucks sometimes known as box trucks that do not have air brakes and are under 26,000 pounds.

no, again, not entirely true....there ARE companies that will hire you, train you, and give you a truck to drive.....however, those jobs REQUIRE a contract to be signed BY YOU to work for them for a period of time. if you leave before the contract expires, some companies make you pay them back, or they ruin your credit, some companies do not make you pay them back.......it all depends on what day of the week these companies change thier minds and re-write the contracts.....no company keeps the same contract agreement with out making changes, in fact, "terms subject to change" is very well in the fine print of ANY contract.....

you are MUCH BETTER OFF, getting your own student loan. there IS an application process and YOU MUST meet eligibility requirements, like any other loan.....the state can pay for training thru the WIA programs if you are unemployed, but be forewarned, that state will only pay (in some instances) for a shorter training period, over what you would get if you paid your own way.

now cost...well that "can be" tough........one school i "used to work at" boosted the cost for the full time class to $9,500...!! the shorter class is now $5,000.....!! some schools can be as low as $3,000....some can be as high as $12,000......!!!

you end up getting what you paid for....which in any situation/price......isn't always a whole lot........

you NEED to go to school, get the class B license, then the passenger endorsement.....

however now comes the difficult part......you NEED to take a road test in a limo, or a bus, for the passenger endorsement....not too many schools have limo's or buses...so, you would need the license first, then the endorsement, then you have to arrange for a sponsor, maybe the limo company to provide you with a limo for the test, then they hire you......

there are just some things that all your money going to school for, you WILL NOT get, like the limo or bus for testing........

Nah, You can pay 4000 to 6000 dollars to a trucking school and get your own CDL.

Driving a Limo needs a passenger endorsement but thats just another test you have to take at the
DMV like getting a tanker endorsement.

Depending on the state, limo only requires the passenger endorsement if you are driving the larger limos.

Yeah, when I read about people paying 6K, some I've seen say up to 9K, it sounds good to me. Plus I get to live at home, and I'm not obligated to a company.
