they ARE out there. Most of them can be found at terminals waiting on trucks to be fixed. They don't give a #### that they're sitting around not making money because they're homeless and live in the truck and are just happy to have a week off. Some of them are owner operators and think theyre making money, but theyre not.
My impression of swift is that they really arent that bad, but they just have a habit of hiring a lot of total ####### steeringwheel holders that make them look bad.
Hell, i had a near-miss with a swift truck today. He was paying no attention whatsoever and as i was approaching him to pass him...admittedly in the lane to his right, but thats his fault for being so far to the left....he starts drifting into my lane....i saw it from a bit back, and you could tell it was just that "oh, oops, didnt mean to" kinda thing, and not an attempt at changing lanes....so i figured he was going to correct it back into his lane. He didnt until i showed up on his ### blowing my air horn, and even then it took him forever to see his error. Gawd... I mean, it wasnt like i would have hit him, but...imagine if i had been in the middle of passing him when he did that!
Also, his trailer was way out of alignment. I mean, not bad enough for it to be in another lane, but...bad enough to see visibly..
Honestly, that sounds like my experiences at werner. The equipment is not being taken care of, both by drivers and maintenance. The company thinks they're saving money by doing stuff themselves but they're wasting money because repairs are being done and redone and redone...
i lost a clutch on a 330,000 mile truck, after waiting in allentown PA for 4 days on the shop, they gave me a truck with 312,000 on it, three weeks later, i lost the clutch in exactly the same fashion. Thankfully that time i was close enough to home that i just went home..LOL. I called my dispatcher the next morning, he says..."So whatcha doin while its in the shop?" i said "i already went home!" hahaha...It sounded like he woulda made sure i got there if i didnt do it on my own though. The mechanic at Freightliner told me that the clutch went out because of a lack of maintenance. One guy said the clutch was burned up, the other guy said it was a clutch fork. But definitely a lack of maintenance and not abuse, they said.
I put a good 80,000 miles on the first truck, so ok, maybe it could have been my fault. But the second truck happened after less than 10,000 miles with me in the seat, so...
But i picked that first truck up and everything and a half was broken. There was duct tape all over the dash, etc.....and it stunk bad....smelled like dog piss...dog hair EVERYWHERE...gawd...
Anyway I think this guy's truck was abused. However, I think it was a previous driver.
Totally Mystified by Werner

I guess some people just have bad luck. I went though training. Have been given 3 trucks with over half mil on them. 1st truck spent about 1 day a week in the shop for the 1st 3 weeks till i got everything up to date on it. 2nd truck only had it for 2 weeks before they took it away cause someone bought it
on 3rd truck now and have no issues with this truck. I have been avg about $650 a week. Some weeks $300 some weeks $1000. I guess its just about luck. Just like I haven't had a truck with an apu yet. But I still got my netbook and my TV so I'm happy. Just to get a sat dish

LOL funny, my dad called me a couple weeks ago and told me he just started with Werner. So I figured I would try seeing as how I had a CDL then. Didn't want me, so I asked if I could be put in any sort of refresher course. No. Oh well. Wish I had known what i see is going on now though.
