So this is kind of a weird one.
I was running 65 in TN and see this flatbed pulling some big grey iron box beams or tower legs.
he had it strapped but three out of the 5 or 6 on the top row were loose.
When I say loose I don’t mean vibrating, I mean catching wind like a parachute 3-6inches of space between the parasail and the load.
I don’t trust my self to run beside someone and try to yell out the window and don’t have a CB radio. So here’s the question.
should I have called the local police dept?
(Company name was in too small of letters to read when he passed)
I don’t want anyone to get a ticket lose a job or be on the #### list of their company but I’d have felt horrible if the load would have killed someone.
I ended up just following him for a while to see if he’d pull over and after about 20 minutes he did, so I’m satisfied with the outcome.
what would you have done in the above situation had the driver not pulled over?
Tough situation to call the cops or not on a fellow trucker?

Simply getting the drivers attention by waving and then pointing back to his load ought to alert him that something back there is wrong. Likely he would pull over and check it.

Good reason for everyone to run a cb huh?
I personally would appreciate being told about it on the cb, vs someone calling the law.
But that is trucking etiquette That is mostly lost.MadScientist, Dino soar, flood and 21 others Thank this. -
I’ve bought two different radios 3 different antennas and several coax cables.
I’ve already spent enough money on #### that doesn’t work.
and I’m not kiddinggentleroger and jamespmack Thank this. -
Calling law enforcement should be the last resort. Do that if it really looks like a major problem. Flapping straps is a problem, how much is the question.
some things you could do.
Get a radio. It comes in very handy for a lot of things.
One thing I have done, because of no radios, is print off some signs. Printed large enough to read when along side the other truck.
All they say is
“ Check trailer for flat tire”
“ No trailer lights”
“ Check your Straps/Chains”
Put them in a plastic binder sleeve.
The one I have yet to use is “ Trailer is on FIRE”MadScientist, Dino soar, beastr123 and 10 others Thank this. -
Buddy your money would be wasted. I'm not radio guy. Simple cobra, one antenna, power and ground kinda guy. -
If his straps were that loose, they didnt just get that way in the last few minutes. They've been that way for some time. He knows.... he's been told or people have tried to tell him. He's just lazy.
Patriot_Bearing_Supply, Magoo1968, Snailexpress and 6 others Thank this. -
Just because you have a CB radio, doesn't mean the other guy does.....
Snailexpress and 88 Alpha Thank this. -
As a flatbedder, my assumption is this was probably one of those “It’ll be ok, It’s just going down the road” types of drivers. He probably tightened two of the straps and just hand tightened the rest to make it look good (even though it didn’t actually look good, but you know what I mean).
