Tough times for student drivers?

Even if you have a new CDL and need to be on a trainer’s truck, you might have to wait it out. I was going to Melton and they put us off until at least June. I’m anticipating more training companies doing the same.

How can a company comply with social distances edicts when they put you in a small, enclosed space with another person for a few weeks? Further, don’t you think these personal injury lawyers are just waiting for an outbreak at one of these megas?

I hope the trucking industry gets pushed toward the front of the line when testing becomes more widespread.

One silver lining could be larger bonuses if you already have a CDL, assuming their pipelines are empty and they're truly desperate.

 

Freight rates are in the toilet because there are way too many trucks with drivers vs the volume of freight. Megas dont need more new cdl slaves. They need to pay enough that the existing ones can feed their kids while driving for them.

Cheap freight undermines the entire industry.

 

Megas could still get trainers and new CDL drivers together. But they'd have to both self isolate for two weeks. To be sure both parties didn't have the virus. That could be an option right now to get some of the over saturated drivers off the road. If only in small batches. But yeah, with loads being put out with cheap rates. Unless people don't take them, they'll keep dropping.

 

My training is complete, I've upgraded to "driver" now. I'm just waiting for a truck, and waiting, and waiting, and waiting...

 

Freight will get better for the rest.

 

Doesn't matter. I've been on the road for 10 days now. Currently in CA. Just dropped a load and waiting for another. Some day they may give me a load home.
