An empty flatbed will act as an airfoil and can become unstable.

By strapping a toy truck, it disrupts the airflow and stabilizes the flatbed.

Careful, there's steering wheel holders who will be claiming this as gospel next.

i once had a full load of air mattresses in my trailer. it was so light, my trailer was off the ground.

DOT cop stopped me at the scale house, asked me what i had inside.

    told him, "independent contractor supplies"

    he said...."huh"?

i said , "yeah, air mattresses for self employed hookers"

Or a bloody gloved arm hanging from the roadside sleeper door, like they couldn't stuff him all in.

I owned a Mack with an AI 460 for about a year. That didn't even help it!

I've been doing open deck for about 6 years, give or take and I personally have never done the toy truck thing, but I was curious about it when I first started open deck. The answer I received was it was superstition. Its bad luck to run empty, so when d/h people would put a toy truck on the deck.
