Well, I did what I said I wouldn't do. I just booked a load and filled out the carrier packet with TQL. The short of it is I'm in Orangeburg, SC and had a slow week. Looking for something to keep me busy over the weekend. Saw a load from exactly Orangeburg, SC (no deadhead) to Billings, MT. 36,000 lbs, no tarp, legal dimensions. called and the guy was polite and curteous, he gave me his price, I gave him mine. he said he couldn't do it. I said I understand. He called back within 10 minutes and gave me my price - $50. (I guess it's principle with these people or something, what ever, close enough) sent the carrier packet back within 1/2 hour and am now waiting for the rate comfirmation. I'll let y'all's know if anything goofy happens !

update - got the rate confirmation, it was one of those rate confirmations that didn't have the name and address of pickup or delivery (must call for dispatch). I hate that, but no disaster. I did get the hand off, I mean I was dealing with one guy, now I'm dealing with another as my "dispatcher". however, he was equally polite and curteous so no big deal. he provided me with the pickup location, the delivery is still a mystery. oh no, do you think I just got TQL'd ??

If it's going anywhere further than Billings as said they are going to be taking that stuff off my truck in the morning I can assure you of that. But we'll see.

edit - surely I can verify the destination with the shipper before loading, I think I'm okay. Just expecting the worst after all the TQL horror stories on here and from conversations !

With TQL, it's like the ref says at the beginning of a boxing match, "gentlemen, defend yourselves at all times".

    Did you say Billings, Mt?
Outa SC thats BIG miles but you WILL leave MT. cheap or empty.(Lotsa 48k loads of cheap TARPED lumber unless yer lucky.)
SLC ain't much better IMO. I'm leased to STC outa Missoula & almost always D/H outa Montana if I want to go south east.
Try Meadowlark, Sammons, etc. brokerage out of Missoula.( STC 406-728-2600 ask for brokerage dept.)

I can only haul 46,000 and I don't carry lumber tarps so I might be SOL. I priced it enough to deadhead a ways, but sure would be nice to at least get something back to IL, WI worth pulling. It's definitely out of my normal area for that reason, don't usually make it past Des Moines or Minneapolis up that ways.

Is it legal for me to tell you that ? Maybe I better read that contract again ! lol. I'm sure whatever number it would be someone would get on here and say, "I don't go to Montana for less than twice that !! or something, really don't want to get that started. All I will tell you is I could deliver this load and deadhead to Peoria, IL and still be 0.08/mile over my running average because that's how I figured the rate to begin with. Minus 50 bucks of course.
