I've been burnt more than once with the cancelled load excuse by TQL, also double brokering. I've also had good rates but they were few and far between.
As a rule TQL is a last resort for me. Just my .02

Love this thread. I started out in this business working for TQL. When I started in 2003, there were approximately 40 brokers total, including the owner, dispatching freight out of 2 offices for TQL in Cincinnati OH and West Virginia. Now that company has grown to almost 8 locations and I think over 2000 employees. They have major accounts across the nation. These guys are making a forturne. Dont haul this freight cheap. I made over $100,000 my second year for them and that is on a 35% commission. These brokers are killing it, and killing the rates in the freight industry. Dont be fooled, they have money in this freight and they are making a ton of money on all of you carriers. They started out as a partnership, 2 guys who came from a trucking company in Ohio. The one owner sold his share to the other owner for $40 million. Its now supposedly worth over $200 million now (probably way more). They are killing it. Some of these guys are making $2000/load on produce loads. $2000 @ 35% = $700 to the broker and they are doing it countless times a week. Some brokers are moving 50/60 loads a week. Stand your ground and get the rates up for your trucks. Most of those guys in those cubicles that work for TQL drive BMWs.

I am in no way bashing this company. I am thankful for the opportunity that they gave me to get into this industry. I am a good broker and a great dispatcher/freight coordinator. The company that I work for now has a small brokerage but the majority of our business is in our own fleet. It just gets so frustrating on how these brokers are killing the market for all of the guys doing all of the work in this business. I understand that business is business but at some point the carriers need to stand their grounds. Pittsburgh Logistics has a mutual customer of ours. The customer offered us a rate of $1800 on a shipment from Baltimore MD to Boston MA. We saw that PLS posted the same shipment so we decided to call on it. They were offering $900. That is the margins that these brokerage companies are making. And half of these brokers dont even check with the shippers and recievers on loading and delivery schedules. The biggest part of their day consists of typing the order up in the system and faxing/emailing the order to the carrier who is doing all the legwork behind the shipment. I understand that everyone is in this business to obtain a profit, but 50% is ridiculous. I've said it before and I will continue to say it. DONT HAUL CHEAP FREIGHT. By doing so we are only hurting our own well-being.

KG here is a load that made me quit using TQL for good. PO# 2814401
Broker decided to cut my rate down $225.00 without me knowledge,
when arrived at shipper we told them that we are picking up a 2 stop delivery and when got my bills they said they did not have products for the final stop, well i called broker about it and he said it's ok and never mentiond a rate cut and never send me a new rate confirmation.
my truck was pre booked 30 miles from final stop, so we end up goin past that point any way.
Finds out when check arrived, so i called him up and he was rude and hang up the phone, i called back and other guy answer's and says he is busy, then i called his team leader this guy was much nicer and told me will take care of this by this afternoon, next day came i called and asked for the guy and got the "in the meeting " answer and "we left him a note to call you back". The guy never called. Any way the issue here is not the money but the lake of respect and unprofessionalism by disregarding my approval of any changes to the agreement, why do we have rate agreement if it can be violated, trust was lost and maybe I have lost some money but your company have lost a reliable carrier and will continue to lose honest hard working people and someday will close the doors,
I have asked my insurance company to void TQL as certificate holder and send a note of that, I will not haul another load for TQL, but I'm writing this to you because it seems that you care and this issue needs to be addressed before it's too lateLast edited: Sep 30, 2012
