How does anyone "force" you to take a cheap load?

That's in my neck of the woods. If you'd asked before coming down here I could have saved you some trouble longhaul loadboard freight around here is always dirt cheap. You'll starve trying any long haul loads. And shorthauls too. I do good because I know the area and the freight. A suggestion here and not meant to be hateful but why don't you go home and try to figure out a workable shorthaul situation around where you live? It might take several months to figure different things out. There is no money in longhaul dry van and most definitely no money in it when you're hauling loads to anywhere the freight goes without any thinking ahead. Do you live in Jersey? I have to believe if I did with all the freight up that way I could figure out some ways to make great money and be around the house at least every day.

Same with Florida, go out of the state and starve, run local and you can do good if you know where to look.

Well it's not anywhere near as bad as Florida, I can and do go out of state... ...the thing is you just don't come around here on a wing and a prayer and hoping for the best. Can't tell you how much time I spend looking at loadboards here as well as in other states around places I go. I think some guys just see stuff, pick it off, go into the wild blue yonder and hope for the best. And the times I'm on 10 hour breaks looking at all of this stuff. That's a good 3 or 4 hours almost everyday, when it's slow sometimes more. I'm just as tired at the end of the day after hauling a couple of 50 or hundred mile loads as anyone running 600-700 miles a day. The difference is I'm making my rate and working hard to get it while they don't want to be bothered with the work would rather load, drive 600 miles, sleep 10 hours, deliver... ...and only then look to see what is available when empty. If you're not constantly looking, emailing, calling and searching you're missing out on a lot. I go 600 miles or even 800 at time but it pays so good I can forget about loadboards at least for a little while. You just can;t do that day in and day out on cheap freight or that's all you'll ever see. Got to mix things up and ALWAYS have to be keeping tabs on the boards every moment, even restroom breaks with the phone LoL.. Sometimes I can plan 3 and 4 loads out or more, sometimes not but I always know what might pop and going to the house is ALWAYS an option. I'm sure you likely do the same down there in FL.

Apex Freight just told me $1700 for Blackwood Nj to Dallas TX for 1471 miles, and they would like to retire early on Oklahoma City to Philadelphia PA 1400 miles listed for $2200 towards the rushing market.

I was there for 4 days and could not afford tosit any more, and Landstar Inway (281 area code phone number) told me $1000 tonortheast for about 1000 miles and similar offers from every one else. If you trycall and every one says the same rate then you have no choice. TQL offered $1400 to HackensackNJ or some thing like that from Alabama, but the load got cancelled after I got there (100 miles dead head without any regards). Theinspection guy said he can't load due to a minor scratch type (horizontally)crack towards the back of the trailer (never heard that before). Wasted 2 hoursthere picked up load from SC to North Jerseyfor $1100. That was after calling all the listings from the area.
What would you do in that situation?

    What is your business model?

Spot loads would be my last resort but some people can make it work, load confirmation in writing can help before moving a inch.

TQL would never be anywhere in my phone calls, unless it was to block them.

Con Way Multimodal booked a load from CT to Baltimore MD $600 I got there after getting the rate conf sheet. The Coca-Cola place said the load has already been shipped. Invoiced them for TONU $250 never got it.
Mystic Logist out of Robbinsville NJ (Ned who does US Mail all the time with multiple stops) ordered Truck from Ayers MA to pickup from Boston MA,never seen the payment. Freight Quote held the truck for 1 1/2 day on the load from Lakewood NJ to Spartanburg SC and cancelled at the last moment no regards or any answer to the emails or calls.
Does every one get 90% of the times load cancellations? Business Modal is far behind than the basic operations like, all loads being covered all the time, and all loads at the half market price and 90% load cancellations on the ones we book.
