We've been doing mixed grocery/GM for a couple years now out of select DC's, which services two lower-volume stores with one truck, but I doubt this will grow into anything more than this. The sheer volume on BOTH GM and grocery shows no sign of slowing down. Also, much is being overblown as to this message sent by Bentonville. What they said is we are behind Amazon in ONLINE sales and they are positioning us to take them on to secure the future of the company! See, this is exactly the kind of strategy that K-Mart refused to implement, hence you see what they have become, once the retail giant, now almost extinct. Walmart continues to survive and thrive because they are PROACTIVE, as simply being REactive is a death sentence. Walmart is NOT in trouble, but in order to make sure they are still around to sign our large paychecks, they make changes that sometimes are unpopular. However, no driver has lost or will lose any money! The FLW's were a nice perk, but I agree it was unproductive to hold a load for the next day when there was a driver on the yard with hours to run. That program was inefficient and outdated, and while many drivers will piss and moan about it, maybe they'll look back years from now and realize they still have a great job because the company adapted and changed as necessary in order to survive and not become the next K-Mart!

So sad when I see the occasional Walmart driver claiming to be unhappy. You're doing something wrong if that's true. To each his own I guess, but I've been here for four years this July and I have ZERO regrets, and what I'm making is ridiculous, but they keep signing the check and it doesn't bounce so...

Well this isn't the highest paying job in the industry I made a little more working for a major ltl company. With that said I did not come over here for the money I came over here for the time off. Btw 47 cents a mile it's laughing money to a linehaul driver.

    bzinger and BackIsSore Thank this.

I doubt .47 cpm is 'laughable'. Yes the time of is great if you don't want to make what you can make, but a driver not in a program working a 5 on, 2 off, will make 'laughing money'...laughing all the way to the bank. Hope things get better for you, I guess this job isn't for everyone, there are a few who actually quit, but for the most part, it's the top job. I know UPS is the top paying LTL carrier, and their average pay is less than Walmarts average pay, so if you're not making more than you were before, you're either not at full rate (which if you're at .47 cpm you're NOT), and/or you're doing something wrong.

Google search -"The Walmart you don't know" - on Fast Company.
Read up on your company's Management practices and I will discuss it further.

I am well aware of my company management. They do what they do in order to avoid going the way of K-Mart. I don't need to discuss anything further with you. You hate Walmart, I get it. I don't, and I don't give an ounce of merit or credibility to the anti-Walmart propaganda to which you referenced. Good day.

I don't even tell my linehaul friends that part lmao. Most of the big LTL's are 70 cpm or close to before you add in dropping and hooking sets.

Very well said. I'm glad to see them taking action instead of waiting until it's too late. I hope doing away with FLW's will cut back some of the free wait time I give up every week waiting for a load at my home DC.

I know, it sucks to have hours to run yet all the loads that are ready are being held for the next morning. Plus now others will get an opportunity to get these nice runs once in a while and see other parts of our service area that we otherwise wouldn't have been able to since open dispatch is not seniority based. There are places I'd love to go, but the top driver on my depart day had it locked up. And if I'm on the yard with hours, perhaps now I'll have a much better chance of getting a load out. I can see many of the high seniority drivers being upset, but like I said before, they'll look back on this decision and be glad they still have a job.
