I’m just surprised about tractor service rates. Thease rates have gone down so badly. Their used to be a time 5 years ago where all thease big trucking company offered 3rd party city work at a rate of 60 plus dollars hourly. Now thease rates have dropped to 45 hourly. What surprises me even more is that Gardewine made it 38 bucks an hour ?!!

I believe they call this a "race to the bottom", it's a game where we keep undercutting each other until there's nothing left, and then we have a collapse of economy which often results in political instability, violence, general degradation of civil society until desperation pushes up to elect a dictator that will "solve all our problems" (anyone remember Hitler?). Then that supreme leader usually enacts warfare to support his regime through supplemental payments from richer nations (dirty work). Or something like that, anyway.

TransX and Bison are sitting at 34.00/hr.

The reason is, OTR/Highway SUCKS! So you’ve got a ton of O/Os with paid off trucks looking to get off the road, Dickheads with duct taped up Daycabs who will do it for nothing, and scabby Highway outfits, who use their highway drivers to do it for free.

So the rates have tanked, and a 1000 guys are in line to do it.

BigHoss explained simple rules of economics, supply vs demand. There are no regulations in place to maintain a threshold value of minimal payment for service rendered, so hence what we get is this downward spiral effect which will result in suffocation of labor. Truckers have done nothing in the last 40 years to prevent this, by either forming unions or litigating these matters, so we get what we deserve.

    Well said!

I also just remembered, VK Delivery in Annicis Island, will do local deliveries for $19.95 flat rate. I used them a couple of times (#### are they dumb and hard to deal with tho lol) but it was cheaper to pay them $19.95 to deliver 2 pallets into Richmond, than go there myself lol. They did 6 pallets to Vancouver Downtown for $45bux once, prob took them all day.

Unions are crap. Ask the O/O log haulers in BC how that worked out for them.

Allow me to correct that statement for you, "today's unions are crap", and that's very true. They are super useless and mostly corrupt. What I advocate for is for the formation of new unions, led by truckers, not office monkey bureaucrats. We need new organizations to challenge all the negligence of the past.
