You stated that the reason for ELDs was because of truckers having accidents and you implied that those who have accidents cheat on their log books.
Before you go, how long have you been trucking??

And it serves them right. For some time now states(especially Virginia) have been warning truck drivers not to park on the shoulders of on/off ramps of highways and rest areas and this was the end result,a helluva mess to cleanup. And from my understanding in addition to issuing tickets Virginia now assesses points against licenses for doing this.

Basically all of the drivers involved made themselves poster childs.

Doesn't mean he was running legal. Lots of guys unload and load while logging in the sleeper or off duty. Or maybe he stayed up playing video games and watching porn I steady of sleeping. Either way he either fell asleep or was distracted and left his lane, no excuse for either.

He was right about one thing. Head line making accidents are what gave ammo to those pushing elogs. Sure many more accidents are caused by rookies that are not properly trained, but the ones that are caused by guys blatantly violating hos rules get much more national attention. might not be fair but its the reality.

If I had $100 dollars for every time I’ve listened to “old school” drivers talking about running 3-4 log books and how they can’t make money anymore on elogs,my mortgage and car payment for the next year and a half would be all set.

Stop the drama. E- logs are here to stay, deal with it
Or move on. All the #####ing and complaining ain't
    Gonna do anything.

I haven't slept in a rest area or on a exit ramp in years.
Every night I find a parking place at a truck stop,
    And it's free.
Hit the road at 2am instead of 7am and you won't end
Up with your trailer sticking out on the side of the highway while parked on a exit ramp.

Every time the DOT passes more rules and regulations,
I work less hours and make more money.
A driver starting out today works half the hours we
Did 20 years ago for the same amount of money.

How soon we forget those 17,18 sometimes 20 hour
Days back to back to back on those paper logs. Stopping for nothing but to pump fuel or take a dump.
Everything else was done while driving.
    1000 mile days where normal.
8 hour break was unheard of, let alone 10.
If you got more than 4 or 5 hours sleep in a day you
Where considered lazy. You weren't a runner!
That words not even used anymore.

Now I sit on my ### 10 stress free hours everyday no
Matter what and make more than I ever did running non
Stop balls to wall 7 days a week.

Let's be honest. Most who park on the shoulder or regularly in rest areas do so because their backing skills just aren't there, or they suck at trip planning and having backup plans, or they suck at keeping themselves motivated to move when they have good hours to move. To blame eLogs or HOS rules as the main reason many trucks park on ramps (like it's a new thing) is ridiculous.
