I've blown this guys doors off at 65mph. I passed him and his buddies a couple of weeks ago out in Lovelock.

I mean these aren't the best drivers out there, don't get me wrong, but there is something really odd about slow trucks smoking a lock-up for 330 feet and still having enough force to damage the train that much.

I mean, he was empty, laying down 13 axles, and smoked them for a football field, and still had enough force to punch halfway through a railcar and blow his diesel fuel tanks.

I mean, it's like, the only thing that makes any sense, would be to pull the trolley bar enough to lock-up your pup trailer and bounce it around, but keep your foot on the hammer.

Doaes anyone know in which direction the truck was going? If the train was traveling from the north-east, and the truck was coming down US-95 from I-80 (3 miles north), then the driver would have to turn his head over his left should to see the oncoming train. (see attachment)
I'm not trying to excuse the driver, but there are many unanswered questions before we crucify the driver. :biggrin_25516:

Truck was northbound, train was westbound.

Regardless of the direction of travel of any of the vehicles, and regardless of whatever direction the driver would have had to look, it has been stated from both officials and witnesses that the lights and guards were working and active.

Yeap, they where working, that's why after the wreck there is a picture of a police officer leaning on them!

The Nevada Highway Patrol said they where working, not the professionals.

:biggrin_25524: hum if i was driving , i think i could see the train a mile away , so i'm just thinking out loud here, i'm thinking he tryed too beat the train, and with load of rock's , there's no way too stop a moving truck at 75 mph and the force will make u slide right into the train, but that's just me, for me i like too go out west and wacth the train's, i love too wacth as they corkscrew up the grades, or go thru the tunnel's, but i guess we never know till they got done with there report:biggrin_25524:

I'm glad you read how he was completely empty at the time.

Here are the 100% facts that we know for 100% at this time.

    He was unloaded.

    He hit a train.

    He is dead.

Amtrak doesn't know who was on the train 100% yet. Hell, they don't even know if cellphones work in that area yet (They may not depending on carrier, and some carriers have been having major problems all over).

You'd think that if Amtrak had the video from the cab of the train that proved all kinds of stuff, they would have released it already. The media stories can't even figure out if he had drove a school bus or not.

As for not seeing the train, how many four wheelers pull out in front of you daily. You could be two stories tall, bright orange and derpy doo, they pull out in front of you.

I watched a four wheeler run into a anteater with a condo, who had 7 lights on each side of his truck (three across the mudflap bar, three up the headache and one on the front fender facing back)

Maybe she thought he was the entrance to the drive thru?

They do. It is now in the possession of the NTSB so it isn't Amtrak's to release. While it doesn't show the impact (because of where the truck hit the train), it does show that the crossing warnings were functioning.

So what you're saying then, is that the truck driver was just as inept, careless and in fact as dangerous, as the driver of any four-wheeler and should not have been in control of a CMV.

    I couldn't agree more.

The NTSB has stated they were working. Each individual crossing guard does not span the entire width of the road. Whether the truck driver hit it, or missed it because he was in the opposing lane is irrelevant.
