It was actually 44,360. Trucks 20,000, full of fuel, Trailers 15,500, it’s a heavy paper spec 53 dry van. I can still scale 45k, if needed. My last Trailer, was about 800 lighter. Standard spec, w/ aluminums, I could get 46k, when needed, hauling watermelons by weight. You should be OK, with most loads, up to 45k. Reefer? Depends on the weight. Friend of mine, 379 w/ Cat, reefer and 45k is always 800-1000 lbs over

Trailers Dry Van come in so many different configuration 45' to 57'

Aluminum to Composite walls steel deck or wood...

    Skirts and flairing....

The bottom line is the Load! Full Or LTL....I liked Reefer... 44 K in the box which is what its spec'd for and it can pull dry or wet loads. Which means it can get you out of Cali with fresh produce when dry loads are not paying well or loads are two days out.

I would consider a skateboard....but no tarps for me!

One trick I used was lighten my truck was keep fuel level at 50 percent....drop no more than 100 (800lbs) gallons as needed.

There are a couple more things I thought of regarding weight. I average 4-5 loads a week running spot market with a dry van. I would say half of those I have the weight wrong. It's either wrong from the broker or the paperwork when I scale doesn't match what the scales say after I leave. Just FYI, always pay attention.

Second, a lot of places I go have scales but they are mostly for bulk trucks, not really for the vans picking up outbound product. Several times I have asked to use the scale and been told NO. This always ticks me off. However, if I see a scale anywhere on the property and it has an outside readout and no one around I just use it. I have never had anything said to me this way. It's kind of one of those 'forgiveness is easier to get than permission' situations.
