IP has closed down a number of Facilities in both OR and WA as well.
Another big paper mill "Longview Fiber" just upstream a couple miles from Weyco was just sold but is still operating under new ownership, it's now Kapstone Kraft.
Definitely some things shaking up in the paper industry.

The local papers got the deal all wrong and the front page said Weyco had bought LVF, turned out just timber to Weyco and the mill to Kapstone.
Makes me wonder what's next, we also deliver to four different Georgia Pacific mills in the area all of which are huge operations. -
Interesting. After Union Camp was bought out by IP in 1999, they began selling off the massive VA/NC timberland holdings...and (surprise, surprise) exactly ten years later, in 2009, IP announced the closure of the standard-bearing Franklin, VA mill. Just last week IP announced the closure by year's end of their largest bleached paper mill in Courtland, AL. (Oh, did I mention they've built new mills in Russia and Brazil?
)

Give "the fed" some more time to inflate the dollar until we're a third world backwater then maybe those jobs will come back cause we're the cheap labor? Who knows, nothing makes sense in this country anymore.
