Inner seal or outer seal?
The bearing needs oil, you let it go down far enough and the bearing will blow.
If it's the inner seal you may need to change the shoes. -
You can not wash brake shoes, and still have effective breaking. keep the hubs full of oil and drive it, it will not get any worse unless you let the oil level to get down.
-
if you want to run it that far stop and get some STP oil treatment and put it in hub, its nice and thick and will keep it from burning up, done this many time to prolong till i returned home.
Change brakes anyway, its a nice ticket if you dont and they catch it, iv cleaned them before, but a good DOT cop can tell. -
You don't say if its just seeping or flat out leaking, running down the shoes drums tire...
legally, replace it asap... off the record, get a bottle of Lucas hub oil and check and fill accordingly.
If DOT catches you, you will be shut down and placed OOS and forced to call a mechanic which will cost you around $400 plus
Or you can spend about $120 to $140 and get it done before any of the above happens or worse yet your seal lets go and you cook a bearing... it seizes and you lose a set of duals which in turn could possibly hit someone head on and kill them.
Your choice man... -
