As the title says, have you ever seen a trailer tire inflation system air up a tire, that was broken loose from the rim, while the trailer was in transit? I'm asking this from a discussion on another forum.

Back several years ago when the company I worked for at the time first started getting trailers with tire inflation systems a friend told me that he had a tire broken loose from the rim that was seated and aired up when he got to destination. I knew the guy wouldn't lie to me but I still thought to myself, I don't know if I believe that or not! Later on I had the same experience. Since then I've had it happen approx 4-5 more times.

I guess somehow when in motion the tire spreads and seats enough to take air. Not exactly sure how it happens.

Just wondering if anyone else here has had the same experience.

It could happen somehow if a bead does seal along the way.

Probably the same way a tire will seal to the rim as air is being supplied in a tire shop.

I was really surprised the first time I personally saw that it did seat and inflate the tire. Just hard to imagine how it spreads the tire enough to seal enough to take air.

I've wondered several times, with the fact that this happens, why the tire was broken loose from the wheel to start with.

It was probably low air pressure.

Sounds kinda like the CTIS system some of the vehicles in the Army used. Although I don't recall ever seeing that exact thing happen. When I saw the title, I thought at first you were talking about a bead seater for when you were replacing a tire on a rim. Ether is faster, though.

how does the tire go flat to begin with??? in order to start pumping.

isn't that the systems job is to keep the tire from going flat in the first place.

if the trailer brakes are set, there is no air flow to go through the system, so no inflation
