I just picked up a 1989 trailmobile trailer that was manufactured without spring brakes. I thought spring brakes were required on trailers after 1975

really with trolley brake it is allowed to use it on road. PREV valve applies trailer service brake if you pull red button, but... till there is air in air tank on trailer frame. And usually they leak air...

So, IMHO, I'd install new Park Relase Emergency Valve (find any of current DOT/ECE regulation in Wabco, Haldex ore Bendix catalogue) and install spring brakes. Before end of 90-s one axel spring brakes were required, now - two for tandem and tridem tralers and three axel brake for 4 and 5 axel trailer.

When were spring brakes required on container chassis?

I do not plan on adding spring brakes to this chassis
