    Hi Guys,
My name is Andrew and I just applied to Millis today. I decided that I needed a change in careers. I am currently moving to Illinois from Florida (nothing good comes out of Florida except OJ so no one hires down here). I have been a Paramedic for the last 7 years and a EMT before that since 2001. Needed to switch things up a little bit. I have my CDL but it is worthless because I have been out of a semi since 2005. In 2005 I worked for Covenant and drove as a team. I was with a female trainer because I was driving with my then girlfriend and she was the nastiest thing I have ever come in to contact with. (Both the trainer and the gf :yes2557:)I was out with her for several weeks and they were terrible. My question is how are the trainers at Millis? I am scared to death of getting with someone who is disgusting or nasty. 5 weeks is a long time to stay in a truck if you dont care for someone.

I can say that I was a lot younger then and definitely immature. Driving was a lot for me and made me grow up which I am very thankful for. This email is probably pretty premature since I just applied today and haven't heard anything. I just hope that the decision I have made doesn't cause me to fall flat on my face, and if it does I hope god allows me to fall on grass rather than concrete. Thank you in advance for all of your help on here and for answering the questions.

I forgot her name... Phyllis maybe?? Middle of summer she didn't want her idle time up so we kept the truck off. Horrible experience... The gf on the other hand was just crazy and that was my own fault! Young, dumb, and full of... well you know the rest.

Majority of the trainers are excellent, the occassional knucklehead will become a trainer but they dont last long. If you have a issue with your trainer can always switch without issues. Everyone has a different method of trainging/personality/way of learning an on occassion those clash.

My buddy started with Millis and went out with a supposed decent trainer...Well, all the guy wanted to do was watch Porn or listen
to X-rated stuff on the Sirius.

    Not all trainers are bad.....

    Hi,
Welcome to Millis. I just passed my sixth month with them. I can’t speak but from my own experience. I had a great trainer and we got along great. He had been driving for over twenty years after working his early years as a cop. He taught the skills I needed, not just for being a good driver, but how to live and work out on the road.

I too have worked in EMS, for two years with a busy multi-county service. I’ve had other jobs since but nothing has carried the stress that pre-hospital care did. It’s the stupidity that eats at you or at least it did for me. I also went through a divorce during that time and wow…talk about a stressful time in life.

Millis has been a great choice for me. I drive regional and am home on the weekends and sometimes through the week. They are giving me one of the new Freightliners here in a month or so or before December. My stress level is so much lower these days. I simply drive and listen to my radio and podcasts and take in the scenery. Sometimes I might miss a turn or exit – but nothing to get all bent out of shape over. At age 45, I’m done with all that.

You've already drove so my best advice is that you work hard and try to get along with your trainer. If, for some reason, you do get a trainer you conflict with then let Mike Millis know ASAP. As said before you can get placed with someone else if there are any problems or conflicts. You know that five weeks on the road passes quickly. When there are those moments - just keep thinking about how soon you will be in your own truck and driving and stopping when YOU decide. Hang in there and best of luck.

    PS
What part of Florida were you in? I enjoy the Panama City and Jacksonville area. Diving in the Gulf is great. I hope I can retire down there someday.

Yes I am tired of the stupidity and nonsense of the job. Im just burnt. I know you understand EMS managers LOL. I'm looking forward to the change. I'm 30 and I hope that this is the right move. Write to my email, it is emtajc@yahoo.com. I would like to speak with you more. Not everyday you meet someone on here who understands the bs of EMS.
