So OP, you force your religious values on someone else?

I'd pick a new trainer if I had to deal with that.

    CRSTMaria and Beardawg Thank this.

I must have missed the religion part of his post. But I do agree, no religious radio when there is a trainee in the cab with you. If they are in the sleeper and your driving its all good or simply asking the trainee if they are ok with it would also work....I am Agnostic but someone listening to Christian or Jewish or whatever radio would not bother me one bit....its usually just entertainment to me.

Coming from the Bible belt it bothers me. I've had it shoved down my throat my entire life, it's not something I'd want to have to put up with. I really don't care what someone believes or doesn't believe, but i'd rather not have it forced on me..but whatever. he isn't my trainer. if i was put in that situation i'd request a new one, i hear its not a big deal to get another one. after all, they are there to teach you, not act like your dad.

I totally agree that distractions should be limited as much as possible. My point is that the trainers I've seen posting here seem like they are being totally put out by training a trainee.

if the fact that your trainer listens to religous programming on the radio drives you to ask for a new trainer,i think you maybe in trouble.if he try to force you into prayer or something, thats entirely different.take a look at some of the threads involving training co.'s.see how many guys are waiting for weeks for a trainer.and not liking what a trainer plays on a radio is not excactly going to be put on the top of the priority list.just my opinion.now most trainers will listen to request like that.i know when i trained,i had a few who objected to my listning to howaed stern,so i changed it.i had a jamaican guy who really wanted to listen to the world cup while i was driving.no big deal,it's just a couple of hours.(if you think soccer is boring on tv,try listning to it on radio!)but he was a good student, and i'm flexable, unless i feel it's a demand.

I'm going into this gig with the expectation that my trainer/trainee experience will be an absolute nightmare, so hopefully I will be mentally prepared to survive such situations as quoted above.

One thing trainees need to remember, when you re gone and on your own, the trainer is picking up another trainee. What you think is inconsequential maybe wouldn't be one time.....but when you have a long long string of trainees, each with little wierdnesses, they all are consequential to the trainer. I had one trainee who thought i didnt need to get home....he should get home every weekend because i am used to being on the road. I asked him what I should do if the next 6 trainees felt the same way? I had another who honestly thought he should get his training pay, plus half my pay....he said he is doing half the work. I asked him if he could do all the work if i wasnt there. He said "well, no, not yet". I told him thats the point....I could actually do all the work easier if he wasnt there, but I was trying to teach him so he could do it after I wasnt there. I had a trainee who couldnt tell me if he was in Charlotte, NC or Columbia, SC....and he was driving at the time. Any trainer can tell you far more "horror stories" than trainees can tell you. Most trainees only had one or two trainers....most trainers have had a list of trainees.
