Ask the company if you can be a trainer after 6 months of driving if you dont have any accidents or moving violations. If they respond yes you can then you know what kind of a trainer you will be getting. Ask if you can lease a truck from them the same day you obtain your CDL, if they say yes they can and do this SCAM all of the time then stay away from them. CR England does this and so do several others.
Puppage Thanks this. -
Thanks Moon, I have already been contacted by CR England and was thinking about going with them but thanks to you I have changed my mind and will stay away from them.

Do you know if CRST Expidited is worth looking into?
-
Noooooo to crst

The EEOC was unable to reach a settlement with CRST for Starke, so it filed a lawsuit in 2007 on behalf of all female drivers subjected to "a sexually hostile and offensive work environment."...."
This was big news a last year. -
I have heard good things about Schneider National out of Wisconsin. I talked to a driver with Knight 9 years ago that seemed happy but that was a long time ago and when the economy collapsed in 2008/2009 things changed.
I had heard good things about Central Refrigerated but they were just bought by Swift and I hear both okay and bad about Swift.
I attended a community college 50 miles from my home and they are currently charging 1,112 plus fees for a physical and drug screen which will probably be about another $200 and took 11 weeks to go through. Very happy but I understand many people cannot afford to borrow that much plus take 11 weeks although some community colleges have it down to 4 weeks from what I understand. I also worked evenings while attending class from 7:00 am to 1:30 pm.
Have also heard that Con-Way may provide training but you may be required to work the dock part-time before they put you through school. I would check with some Con-Way drivers on here or contact them in your area.
The jobs available vary widely depending on where you live. Check with the moving companies such as Mayflower, United Van Lines and others because some of them may have programs for training. -
Roehl and Millis Transfer are both solid outfits that provide just that, you'll have to work off the training though (or pay them back)... about a year I think.
There are others as well, but these two would be at the top of my list. -
Schneider doesn't offer CDL training but they do take drivers without experience and in my opinion are a good starter company.

Post your location; someone may recommend a good company, then you discover you're not in their hiring area. Put city/state on your profile.
Moon_beam Thanks this.
