From what I hear, they are a good company, and they give consistent miles. My husband is graduating from them this week, but there are a ton of threads about them that are current, including one called my life at millis where day to day life is chronicled.

Between the sign on bonus and writing the training off on your taxes, the schooling should pretty much be paid for. Having the cdl bought and paid for is usually better than being an indentured servant at some trucking company that can charge a fortune if you leave before the contract is up. Post your location and @Chinatown should be along with a list of companies you may want to consider.

So I'm clear: Your plan is get your CDL from a CDL school back home, get hired by the Springfield company, and having your CDL but no experience drops your "training/teaming" period from 3-4 months to 3-4 weeks? I'm not sure that's how they would treat your case. At Prime, having your CDL but no experience lets you bypass the PSD phase and go right into the TNT phase of30-40,000 miles with a trainer.

The company I researched, may be the company you are talking about using the Prime Inc training system, did require 2 years OTR experience to get hired. I think they have reduced that since last Summer. Or, they would train you, give you CDL, and then you ride with trainer for 40,000 miles (2-4 months). At that company, coming in with new CDL and no verifiable OTR experience just changed who paid for your CDL. It didn't shorten your training/teaming time. If you have experience you will quickly be making team miles. Your trainer has the incentive to team as soon as you pull your own weight. If you are making team miles you get through 40,000 miles in 2-3 months. The 40,000 miles are miles the truck moves, not miles YOU drive. My OTR experience was not recent enough and I was facing 20,000 miles with a trainer/team driver. That translates to about 1 month, in my case, in a crowded truck, or until the trainer/company are satisfied. BTW, where I use 40,000 miles it may be only 30,000 miles. I don't remember which is accurate, but it's one or the other. The recruiters at the Missoula-Springfield company are accurate and truthful when answering my questions. I don't see any harm in asking them if your two alternatives give you an advantage. I also don't want to share a truck for a month, but I would focus on" is it a place I want to work", not "what's my quickest route to a solo truck". The good companies are usually more careful or selective and that's better in the long run.

Millis is a good company but being in Florida is going to limit your opportunity in trucking. Florida is a blackhole for many trucking companies since there is so little industry. I lived in Daytona and Ft. Lauderdale for years. The further south the worse it gets.

I was thinking I would just have to go out for a month with the trainer if I did a month CDL school here. My bad! So either way it's trainer miles. I got it now!

Also, thanks of the clarification because I wasn't sure if it had to be MY MILES BEHIND THE WHEEL or total truck miles with the trainer. That makes me feel better for sure. Bottom line is i'm not really stressing and more than likely, Ill end up making really good friends with the trainer and have a mentor at my company which would be awesome! And you are right, they made it CLEAR they aren't looking for just anyone. They train 3 people at a time and I've been through 2 rounds of interviews so far. Have my last interview with the big boss tomorrow:) I'm definitely interested in a smaller more caring team to work for after reading the horror stories on the forums!! Thanks!

Millis Transfer only runs eastern states. Jim Palmer runs coast to coast.
Which city/town are you near in Florida?
Seems your in with Jim Palmer already; nice trucks for long haul trucking.

Ah yes I have heard that. Refer is delivered here obviously. I'm North of Orlando and I have a few friends that live here who are OTR truckers so it exists.

Some companies have you run with a trainer for about a week (schneider i think) others have you run for 4 months (prime) .
