Buddy, I ended up going back to my state government job of 20 plus years. I am going to take some time and think this through a little more.My brain is Swiss cheese at the moment and I just need to step back and figure this out. Regarding doing Prime for cdl and then leaving, a veteran trucker wouls have a better informed opinion, but from my "very limited" experience, if you aren't going to go all the way through, a community College or private school may be the better option. You can sleep in your own bed, depending on how close it is to you, the program is not as "rushed", maybe 8 weeks instead of 4, and then when done, you can take your pick of numerous companies ready to hire you. That was the option I wanted to do, but my community College had manual transmission trucks and I didn't want to have the added stress of trying to learn to shift if most major carriers have switched to automatics anyway. Local trucking and dump trucks etc, are still primarily manuals from what I understand, but local trucking had no interest for me. . All that said, as Chinatown posted, it looks like there are plenty of options to keep rolling if you want to go to Prime, get your cdl and then quit.

I appreciate that, and my brain is starting to feel like swiss cheese too. Lots to think about for sure. I'm not worried about learning too much information too quickly. I am more worried about burning 8 weeks at a community college just to learn enough to get the CDL, plus my local community college doesn't have any classes until August 15th, so I wouldn't have my CDL until October 15th

In contrast, in 3-4 weeks, I could have my CDL, plus real world experience with a trainer, one on one. If I choose to leave at that point, I would pay Prime $5,000, but most schools are comparable in price. Once I have the CDL, I could find a better company if I wasn't happy with Prime. Or, I could go O/O with my own authority, or decide this isn't for me.

I appreciate that, thanks. I don't have anything bad to say about my trainer, there was just no way in the world I could do it. If I'm falling asleep 5 days in, what would it look like after several weeks?

That seems like a solid plan. I felt the same way and had the savings to pay Prime off, I did just what you are thinking. Personally, I don't have anything bad to say about Prime, they did as promised, and they pay a competitive training wage and starting cpm rate. . TNT just didn't workout for me
