You cannot run this person as if you were a team operation if that's what you're wondering. Every mile that they drive you will be sitting in the passenger seat supervising and logging as on duty not driving.

Im not trying to run him as a team but just wanted make to i do the right thing for the logbook... i dont know when he needs to do pti, take brake, etc and how much he can drive while im on duty at the passenger seat... my concern is just the logbook and i dont want to ask this question to a dot inspector when im pulled over for this

So Im thinking all your time is on-duty. You should even show the PTI's on your log as well as his. He can drive the 11 hours with the required break and such...

The guy with the permit can drive and log just like a fully licensed CDL holder, but you, the trainer, has to be in the jump seat and logging line 4.

Thx Guys, as i understood since he has permit its still 14 hours per day even we are two of us and it doesnt matter how long he drives, im still on duty since im training him and i should be on the passenger seat. Also we both show the ptis on both log books. Thx again

No one has to "show PTIs." You log such events as on-duty, but there is no FMCSA requirement to identify them beyond the location (per information posted below). Your company may require additional information.
Question 23: When the driver’s duty status changes, do §§395.8(c) or 395.8(h)(5) require a description of on-duty not driving activities (“fueling,” “pre-trip,” “loading,” “unloading,”, etc.) in the remarks section in addition to the name of the nearest city, town or village followed by the State abbreviation?
Guidance: No. Many motor carriers require drivers to identify work performed during a change of duty status. Part 395 neither requires nor prohibits this practice.

Thanks everyone for the responses it was very helpful... walstib; yes im a trainer and i know log(law)books very well if my trainee had a license i wouldn't have a problem with it but since he has a permit its a different situation that i need help with. Hey dont be negative we all learn something new every other day. Believe me i seen soooo many drivers have years of experience and still dont know simple things and they are not willing to learn. At least im eager to learn
