I see that you are from Sioux City, IA. I am moving back that direction this summer. My wife is from there and wants to move back closer to her mother and father. How often do you make you back?

We have a meat plant in both Sioux City and Dakota City that we haul a lot of meat. Getting back there is easy. I lived in Sioux Falls for a while and had no problem with hometime.

well i was reading on these trainers and wondering or guess i know now you have a choice of two different ones i assume and was curious about solo miles for i like to run whats the lease like good or bad idea? they maintain there eq pretty well? is the hotel you stay in decent ?
-
Some make the lease work, some don't. I have not leased nor do I plan to... it hasn't been a hindrance. I went with an alliance trainer so I would have an idea about it before I had to decide. Trainers vary, depends on the person more than which side they are on.
The hotel sucks...Corporal_Clegg Thanks this. -
ok well appreciate info Kmac i see you have 5 years is that all with stevens. i assume its also safe to say if i want to lease i should train with an alliance driver to see what its all about

Stevens is a good training company and they do keep the equipment in good shape. -
The 5 years was prior to Stevens... it was back in the early 80's. I also had to start from scratch.
If you are thinking of leasing I would suggest going with an alliance trainer. You will be able to see how they run it.johnyquest Thanks this. -
I would suggest you learn trucking and it's nuances before worrying about whether to lease.
Each person is different and there is no general answer. I leased, I did very well, but it's not for everyone.
If you have young children at home, if getting home is important, you might consider delaying any leasing ideas until you get the hang of the business. A first year lease operator generally needs to plan to be out more to be successful. While you can go home as often as you want, your payments continue. That first year allows you to establish a reserve fund so you can take time off.
Learn the ins and outs of dispatching, route lanes, how to work with Stevens proclivities and customers first.
You can always lease.johnyquest Thanks this.
