You can gain some good experience in the tanker division. Like the refer division, it can be a good stepping stone to something better.
Biggest complaint I hear from drivers is how rudely they are treated by the oil workers. Equipment is good, pay is medium, perhaps a bit better than medium. Not sure what they pay. When I checked it out before coming inside, they were starting raw rookies at $17.50/hr. They offered me more since I was experienced.
I know other companies will offer mid to upper 20's after you have at least a year's experience.

Considering the fact that for a company's insurance purposes: I'll need a refresher course, (last drove in 2009) and seeing that Stevens is hiring in the oil field for water haulers, I was thinking I could kill two birds with one stone, then hope that 6 months in the oil fields hauling water would allow me to move to a company (still hauling water) for 18 months to give me the required 2 yrs exp in the oilfield necessary to haul crude for a good outfit.
Sound doable? -
My bigger concern is available overtime, I kinda got used to averaging 40 hours of ot (every 2 weeks)

Just Got out of the military about a month ago thinking about getting my cdl and working for stevens im out of TN would you recommend Stevens to NewBie? -
Of course I'd recommend Stevens to a newbie. For all the things we don't do well, for all the ways we can spoil Christmas, we do a #### good job of training and equiping brand new people!
And that's no lie!tntrockstar and Corporal_Clegg Thank this. -
agree with emul even though i no longer work there they do know how to train
-
ABSOLUTELY NOT! There are much better (and worse) companies to start with. I for one would give Schneider a call. I had a date to start with Stevens but after getting the runaround with doing the refresher course or starting completely over I decided to withdraw my application. Also the start money is not good with Stevens.

You won't get any better training anywhere than with Stevens. For all their faults, they are, hands down, the most thorough training company in the industry.
What makes so many people rag on Stevens (that acually have experience with Stevens, not just hearsay) is how they are forced to follow procedures and rules.
If you're prone to pushing the limit and skirting on the edge of things, Stevens isn't the company for you. But if you want to learn and learn well, check them out. -
what is the name of the motel or hotel that Stevens uses? PM it to me if you can. I would like to google the area and find stuff to do as well as get directions as I will be driving in not taking a bus.

For O-1 and O-2 candidates, they use America's Best on Broadway/Beltline Rd at I-30
For CDL class they use Crosslands at US 80 and I-30
When either motel is booked, they use Super 8 on Military Parkway at I-635
