This is no longer the case, although it seems that most experienced drivers do. No one with any reasonable amount of experience would take .32 per mile...better than the .30 that students get but still laughable considering the far better paying options available.

As Chef on South Park once said, "There's a time and a place for everything and it's called college."

In the time I spent sitting I believe I could've built the entire truck.

Come to think of it, you may be right.

All mechanical things break eventually. Guess it was just our turn.

As always @Hick, you're good for a chuckle.

Midwest to the Northeast is a very busy lane. However all Northeast isn't NYC...thank God.

Well, at least the training is over. So cone time and then you get a truck today?

Here's hoping you get the truck you want.

I've noticed in this 680 that the sleeper curtains have lost their magnetism and won't seal anymore. And that the 11' single piece style window blinds do not cover the entire window area like it did in the 700. So I had to buy the 12' 2 piece and still don't like the fit. Travesty and pain!

Heard sometimes it takes the company guys a few days to get a truck as to the lease guys have one waiting instantly..o'well the wait will be worth it who knows @Broke Down 69 might be in a new 680 getting it ready right now. Hope that's the case.

Well shoot, just use old worn out sheets or blankets to cover the windows!;)

That old "we don't know when we can get you a truck" crap is old as the hills. Why are they wasting corporate time and money on the hiring process, not to mention orientation, if they don't have trucks that need drivers. That's just a bunch of BS that some outfits use, to get a greenhorn to go into a lease.

Actually, I'll either get a truck or be sent on a recovery tomorrow.

Waiting is possible but seems unlikely at this point. However, I like your thought on the new 680...lol.

Good idea on the old sheets or blankets...as for the lease scheme, I am a deer hunter and have patience in spades, I can wait out that plan if it becomes necessary.

    Track 3 Day 1

Well, it's over. Tested out today with no problems at all. Seems I became much more proficient at truck/trailer control and backing after running a truck for a few days and I wonder how much better I would have been without losing all that time to a breakdown. Who'd have thought that experience was the best possible teacher? A little sarcasm there.

Anyhow, it happened today. The full on, arm twisting, hard sell on the lease/purchase program. The individual in charge of it obviously had no idea they were dealing with a person who had done their research and after several pointed questions and informed rebuttal to some of the propaganda they were pushing, the lease coordinator decided it might be best if I left for a cup of coffee or a smoke. I was glad to oblige and even more gratified by the response of a couple of my classmates who came to me thanking me for asking questions they hadn't considered and keeping them from making a rash decision without all the information they needed.

Tomorrow will tell the tale of my truck assignment, be it a truck on the lot (there actually aren't many there right now), a recovery of an abandoned truck or waiting around in a hotel at $50.00 a day for a truck to come in. Truth is at this point it makes little or no difference to me as I seem to be becoming aware of the high level of stress I've been under for over three months right now. I am bone tired and just happy that this portion of my career change is over and I could use a day or two of uninterrupted rest, but if need be I believe I could jump out there right now and get going. It'd be nice, though, to catch a little break.

After tomorrow, my posts may slow for a week or so while I stack some coin for a new tablet. Probably will get one Friday as Wal-Mart has several functional tablets at very reasonable prices.

So now we enter a new phase of this thread and I hope you all will stay around and help in the future as much as you have to this point.

You won't be waiting. But what they'll do is tell you it might be a while before a truck is ready and ask for volunteers to do recoveries, so that they can actually get people to do it. If they didn't, nobody would ever do a recovery. Once they drain the pool of those that'll do it, they'll start handing out lot trucks. And just look around you... there's quite a few trucks there that need drivers.

You're afraid to fly. *wink* *cough*

Back in the day I had a method for overcoming that particular phobia...I just showed up 8 hours early and started pounding double screwdrivers until both my eyes were in the same socket. Having sworn off the bottle a decade or so ago and xanax being a non-starter in this career, I guess I'll just have to man up and white knuckle it.

I'll state the obvious, you're not ready to be a lease operator, DUH!

Why companies like Prime would pressure a new driver who just soloed out into a lease contract, is beyond me.

I spent 5 years learning the ropes...

Tested the owner op realm by doing a walk away lease op.

Did that for almost a year and was comfortable enough with the process that I got my authority in January.

Ran contract freight for the company I leased on to for a couple of months, then made a clean break in March. Best thing I could of done personally.

However, I was prepared for the transition via time frame experience.

For me to have jumped into it 1 day out of solo test would have been suicide.
