So after a couple of months of researching companies that hire recent grads, I finally decided to go with TransAm trucking, and am being sent to Mesquite, TX for training on 8-16-08. I am pretty nervous, and up until today haven't read anything really bad about the company. Anyone have any info on this company, and it's quality of training. I badly want to get the best start possible in this industry, and have my fingers crossed. Any info on this would be helpful.

Also, I see that their fleet is Autoshifts. In anyones opinion, is this going to hurt me in the long run starting with autoshifts? I feel completely confident in my shifting skills, but I only have what I learned in school to go on. I was very quick to learn, and I am hoping that getting my experience with TransAm won't hurt me in the future.

    Thanks in advance.

Personally auto shifts is not the best place to start your driving career. Think about it you learn how to drive a standard, and if you don't use it over time you will loose it. It is harder shifting a truck than a car, that is why I choose not to go with a company with autoshift.. I knew a guy who worked for US Xpress for 3 yrs, and when he left he needed to go with a trainer with his new company just to learn how to shif again..

I really have not heard anything negative about TransAm thus far. Just be nice & polite to the trainer & dispatcher and try to get your loads to the customer in a safe & timely manner.
